Mel Gibson is in Talks To Direct Suicide Squad 2

It’s pretty evident that Mel Gibson is 100% back in Hollywood.  With his film Hacksaw Ridge it’s impossible to ignore that he’s just a really really good direction.  And a 10 year hiatus seems like a long enough penalty.  At least it does to the WB head honchos.   As far back as March of 2016 there were reports of a Suicide Squad sequel being written despite the fact that Suicide Squad was poorly received by critics.  The film only received a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes but it did rake in almost $750 million at the box office.

So why not take another chance?  Especially if you were profitable.  And it looks like they’re taking a big chance.  On Wednesday, Mel Gibson became the first name attached to directing the sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, WB is in “early talks” with the controversial director of Braveheart and Passion of the Christ about directing Suicide Squad 2. And hours later, while attending a screening of his Oscar-nominated film Hacksaw Ridge at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, Gibson confirmed the report.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Aside from the fact that I’m Jewish, it just seems weird. Not to get too into it but I’ve forgiven Gibson for his transgressions. In case you didn’t know Andrew Garfield is Jewish and he was the star of Hacksaw Ridge. Plus Gibson hasn’t said a peep about anything anti-semitic since that rant. Maybe I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt but you can’t deny his talent as a director. However, Suicide Squad 2? Really? I can’t possibly imagine what that would look like with Mel Gibson behind the camera. I personally think he should stick to his own projects and Oscar type material. This just seems too weird.
