Although several video game film and television adaptations have fallen short of expectations, the Fallout TV show cast makes this series much more promising. The Fallout TV show is based on the role-playing video game franchise of the same name. Like the game, Fallout TV show is a post-apocalyptic, Western, science fiction drama.
The new Amazon Prime Video TV series Fallout is set in the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust. Its protagonist, Lucy, ventures out of the safety of an underground Vault she has only known as home. The series follows her journeys through the wastelands of post-apocalyptic Los Angeles 219 years after the nuclear war. These are the Fallout TV show cast and characters they play.
Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean
English actress Ella Purnell joins the Fallout TV show cast as its protagonist, Lucy. The character is a young Vault Dweller who has spent all of her life living within the confines and security of the Vault. However, against reasonable advice, Lucy leaves the Vault and ventures into the unknown, open world. Set 219 years after the world’s nuclear bomb devastation, Lucy quickly discovers humanity isn’t as she had imagined. Humans living outside the Vaults have adapted to survive in unimaginable ways.
Ella Purnell isn’t a new face for both film and television audiences. On the big screen, Purnell starred in Maleficent (2014), Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016), and Army of the Dead (2021). On the small screen, Purnell has voiced characters in Star Trek: Prodigy (as Gwyn), Arcane (as Jinx), and Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas (as Kate Ward). Her most notable television acting roles include Sweetbitter (2018-2019) and Yellowjackets (2021-2023).
Walton Goggins as The Ghoul / Cooper Howard
Primetime Emmy Award-nominated actor Walton Goggins joins the Fallout TV show cast as a co-lead character. Goggins plays the main antagonist, The Ghoul, a character the actor truly embodies. Unlike most humans in the present, The Ghoul has lived through all 219 years after the nuclear blast, having an opposite life as Cooper Howard before the event. In the retro-futuristic society, The Ghoul is a bounty hunter and a skilled, mutilated gunslinger.
As a long-living entity, audiences will get a preview of the world before the nuclear war through The Ghoul’s eyes. Although he quickly comes off as the villain, The Ghoul’s twisted idea of morality stems from years as a survivalist outside the Vault. TV audiences will recognize Walton Goggins from his roles in The Shield (2002-2008), Justified (2010-2015), The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey (2022), George & Tammy (2022-2023), and The Righteous Gemstones.
Aaron Moten as Maximus
The third main character in the Fallout TV show is Maximum. The character is a soldier in the Brotherhood of Steel. He’s one of the characters Lucy will encounter after venturing out of the Vault. While not the central character, Fallout’s subplot will highlight his story before joining the Brotherhood of Steel. American actor Aaron Moten joins the Fallout TV show cast playing Maximus. Aaron Moten’s most recent roles include Next TV series (2020), Father Stu (2022), and the Will Smith-led Emancipation (2022).
Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean
Filmmaker David Lynch’s frequent collaborator, Kyle MacLachlan, also joins the Fallout TV show cast as Hank. His character is the overseer of Vault 33, as well as Lucy MacLean and Norm MacLean’s father. Although cast in a supporting role with shorter screen time, the character is central to the protagonist’s storyline. Early 1990s television audiences will recognize Kyle MacLachlan for playing Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks (1990-1991; 2017). He also joined the cast of Sex and the City as Trey MacDougal from 2000 to 2002. Kyle MacLachlan’s other notable roles include Desperate Housewives (2006-2012), How I Met Your Mother (2010-2014), Portlandia (2011-2018), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2014-2015), and Carol’s Second Act (2019-2020).
Moisés Arias as Norm MacLean
Norm MacLean is Lucy MacLean’s younger brother. As a citizen of Vault 33, Norm has also only known the Vault as home all his life. He shares a close bond with Lucy and hopes she finds what she seeks and returns to the Vault safely. American actor Moisés Arias is cast as Norm. Arias may be far from being an A-list actor, but he has had several memorable roles in film and television.
Audiences will remember him in Hannah Montana (2006-2011), The Kings of Summer (2013), Pitch Perfect 3 (2017), The Wall of Mexico (2019), and The King of Staten Island (2020). Other supporting cast members in the Fallout TV series include Michael Emerson (who plays Wilzig), Matt Berry (as Mr. Handy), Johnny Pemberton (as Thaddeus), and Xelia Mendes-Jones (as Dane).
