What Exactly is the Stranger Things 2 Poster Telling Us?

So we’re all hyped for Stranger Things season 2 right? The last season left us on pins and needles wondering what was going to happen and hoping and praying that we wouldn’t have to wait too long to see what fate might befall the boys, Will in particular, and the town of Hawkins. Something bad is coming as we can see from the poster, and it’s likely that most of the town won’t even know what’s happening until the Upside Down is right in their back yard. To be honest, it seems like it already is.

What is the poster from Stranger Things season 2 trying to tell us?

The door between the Upside Down and earth was never closed.

There was absolutely no resolution when it came to the doorway that led into the Upside Down. The assumption was that once Demogorgon was stopped that the issue would be settled. Unfortunately what was done at Hawkins Labs was something a little more serious than just creating a gateway into another dimension. It was the opening of a doorway that isn’t so easily closed. Once that gate was opened it essentially allowed the Upside Down to keep pouring into our dimension. Ever leave your door open on a cold winter day? Eventually the outside finds a way in, and the Upside Down is starting to do the same.

There are worse things than the Demogorgon.

Whether it was a hunter or a scavenger, the Demogorgon was proven fallible at the end of the season when Eleven ultimately dealt with it. No one knows if it’s still alive and just as hungry or if Eleven took care of it, but from the poster it appears that Stranger Things season 2 will be introducing something just as bad and possibly even worse.

There’s a storm coming.

That might sound tame for this series and not quite epic enough for what’s being shown, but it’s entirely accurate. There is a storm on the horizon and it’s headed for Hawkins with a hellish speed that could envelop the town in a smothering blanket of horror that only a few residents are even remotely ready for. Those that have had to deal with the Upside Down and its cavalcade of nightmares might have a better understanding of what’s happening, but it won’t be quite enough to stem the tide.

There’s still a ray of hope for Hawkins.

Take note that on the left side of the poster in between the storm clouds and the earth that there’s still a fair amount of sunlight left. The storm might be set to eclipse it, but it’s presence is enough to give hope that there is still something that can be done. The return of Eleven could help Hawkins and its residents to turn the tide, or at least survive the coming of the Upside Down.

Stranger Things season 2 is going to be a welcome back to many characters as the ongoing issue of the Upside Down is felt by all of Hawkins and the ensuing horror continues to unfold. Get ready for mayhem, because the door is open and the monsters are coming through.
