A Studio Ghibli Theme Park Is Confirmed for 2020: The Details

A while ago, it was announced that there will be a Studio Ghibi theme park set up in Aichi Prefecture in Japan. To be exact, the Studio Ghibli theme park will be set up in what was once the EXPO Park, referring to the site of Expo 2005. However, it is interesting to note that the theme park will make much use of the existing space in the EXPO Park, which will help the people behind it to avoid having to clear out the trees in the region for the purpose of creating more room. Something that resonates with the messages of Studio Ghibli’s movies.

What Do We Know About the Studio Ghibli Theme Park?

With that said, it is interesting to note that the Studio Ghibli theme park isn’t a Studio Ghibli theme park so much as a My Neighbor Totoro theme park. After all, the theme park will be used to recreate scenes as well as settings from that particular movie, which should come as welcome news to those who remember it with fondness. Still, considering that the tentative name of the theme park will be Ghibli Park, it is not unimaginable that sufficient popularity will result in further attractions from further Studio Ghibli movies. Something that is particularly true because of the popularity of Studio Ghibli movies in their native Japan.

For proof, look no further than some of the other attractions that have been set up in Japan before the theme park. One example is the Studio Ghibli Museum, which has been a huge hit with a wide range of interested individuals ever since it opened its doors in 2001. Another example is Yufuin Floral Village, which contains a replica of the bakery from Kiki’s Delivery Service. In fact, it should be mentioned that the EXPO Park is actually already home to a Studio Ghibli attraction, seeing as how its site hosts a replica of the main characters’ home from My Neighbor Totoro. As a result, it is no wonder that EXPO Park ended up being the place chosen to host a bigger, much more expansive version of what already exists.

Besides this, not too much information has been revealed so far. For example, there is no real information about the plans for the theme park that has been released to the media at this point in time, which is understandable because the theme park is not expected to be completed until 2020. With that said, it is interesting to note that Miyazaki Hayao’s latest project Goro the Caterpillar is expected to come out in 2020 as well, meaning that the completion of the theme park should make the whole thing that much more joyous. Regardless, it will be interesting to see whether the Studio Ghibli theme park proves to be successful or not, but if the numbers for their movies are any indication, there is a ready-made audience just waiting to be tapped. As a result, as progress is made on the theme park, more information is bound to come out, whether it is released by the people behind it or by people who are curious to find out everything that they can about it.
