Nickelodeon and “Better Off Dead” Alum Dan Schneider Part Ways

It would appear that Dan Schneider, the guy that played Ricky from Better Off Dead, is parting ways with Nickelodeon. Why this is such a big deal is because he’s been one of their best TV producers and showrunners for quite some time. He’s managed to create several shows that kids thought were great and has been around for a while now. There are a few theories on why he would have been asked to leave or thought it might have been a good idea, but for all intents and purposes things between him and Nickelodeon have been amicable enough. It might have just been time to move on is all.

There’s no telling where he’s going to go from here but chances are if he managed to turn so many ideas into winner at Nickelodeon he’ll find a way to do something just as great somewhere else. To be honest this guy has been pretty great for a while and there’s no telling just what he might do when it comes to being unbound by pretty much anything. It might be time to take a nice long break though since it would seem that he’s been a busy guy in his career. Perhaps he’s due a good vacation and an extended leave of absence. That could also give him enough time to figure out just what he wants to do if he hasn’t already.

It just seems to be time to move on from Schneider and as Nickelodeon moves forward they’ll have to find a way to keep producing the same kind of content that keeps kids interested and coming back for more. Schneider will always remain a big fan of the network and will no doubt be remembered by a lot of people. He’s certainly come a long way from his role as Ricky in Better Off Dead. Back then he was kind of a goofy-looking kid that was painfully shy as well as awkward. Of course in the movie his character was completely dominated by his mother until the end of the film when he found his own love interest, or she found him. In some way Ricky was kind of the guy that you almost felt sorry for, until he decided to be his weird, off-kilter self as usual. Honestly his character was kind of creepy for a while, but he did manage to create a very comical vibe through that attitude.

Obviously his sense of humor and qualities transferred over to his work as a producer at Nickelodeon, though he was behind the scenes quite often doing what he could to get one series or another off the ground. For as hard as he worked with the company it’s obvious to see that he was valued quite a bit and was looked up by a lot of people. It’s kind of surprising in the business to see some people part ways with those they’ve done such great things with, but there’s always a reason behind what’s being told, no matter if it’s good or bad. This time it just seems like it was the right moment to part ways.
