This is a tale about greed, where Reddit user Automatic_Horror5277, a Florida resident, tells us of some unexpected legal trouble he landed up in. He was with his girlfriend for 7 years, out of which they lived together for 5. He bought a house one year into their relationship, and the mortgage was just in his name. Unfortunately, she passed away 2 years ago.
You might wonder about all these numbers thrown at you, but they are important to the story because suddenly his late girlfriend’s mother threatened to sue him for equity in his home. The lady claims she has proof that her daughter had invested in the house and paid for renovations. OP clarifies that none of this is true, as he had always paid all the bills, whether it be mortgage or renovations.
Moreover, she says that he owes his girlfriend’s estate $100,000. The woman communicated all this through her family attorney, who is a stranger to these matters, as he does wills and estate planning. She never really liked OP, but nonetheless, he is wondering whether to take it all seriously since it came from an attorney.
Redditors advised him to get one of his own, as many stated it all sounds odd. Well, he heeded their thoughts and updated that all the lawyers he consulted stated the same: she can’t claim anything until she has hard proof to back up what she was saying. In fact, they told her to go ahead with the lawsuit, which the mom had probably not expected, and instantly closed the matter!

It has been observed that grief doesn’t really have a timeline as such, but OP mentions that things have been difficult for him since his girlfriend’s passing. Then to come across this nasty business with the greedy woman must be like rubbing salt in a wound that has just started to heal, doesn’t it? Our hearts really go out to the poster!
