The Deathstroke Solo Movie Is Gaining Momentum

Curiously, there are reports that Warner Bros. is interesting in having Gareth Evans direct a Deathstroke movie, which is rather surprising considering the limbo in which said character has been suspended for some time. For those who are unfamiliar with the name, Evans is a Welsh director who has received a fair amount of attention for introducing much of the world to the Indonesian martial arts called pencak silat, of which he is a practitioner. Those who are interested should consider checking out his work in The Raid and The Raid 2, but based on those movies, it seems safe to say that the action scenes of a Deathstroke movie will be in good hands. Something that is particularly true because Evans has served as an action choreographer in addition to his work as both a director and a screenwriter.

What Has Happening with Deathstroke Anyways?

As stated, Deathstroke has been in something of a limbo for some time. At the moment, the character is still supposed to be played by Joe Manganiello, but no one seems to know exactly where he is supposed to be showing up as well as how he is supposed to be showing up. In fact, the reports of Gareth Evans being in discussions to direct a Deathstroke movie actually came as a huge surprise because no one had been expecting a Deathstroke movie in the first place.

After all, the earlier reports stated that Deathstroke would be showing up in the standalone Batman movie that was supposed to be coming out at some point following the release of Justice League. However, the standalone Batman movie has run into a succession of serious problems, as shown by the fact that Ben Affleck has since been replaced as both the director and the screenwriter for the movie but not as the actor for the lead character. Some people even wondered whether Deathstroke still had a role in the standalone Batman movie at all, seeing as how Affleck seemed to have been the one pushing for the character’s inclusion.

What Does This Mean?

Now, it seems that Warner Bros. has bigger plans for Deathstroke, though it remains to be seen whether those will be better plans as well. Simply put, a Deathstroke movie would be a huge expansion in the character’s important, though it would not be unprecedented, seeing as how Warner Bros. has shown a willingness to use other super-villains as the leads for their DC Comics movies. However, there are still a lot of questions that remain unresolved for interested individuals.

For example, one cannot help but wonder whether the Deathstroke movie will be part of the DC Extended Universe or not. After all, there has been recent news that Warner Bros. was planning to make DC Comics movies with no connection to the shared setting, which would provide the people behind those movies with more freedom but make matters a lot more confusing for people interested in keeping up with its releases. Furthermore, since Deathstroke is supposed to be receiving his own movie, one cannot help but wonder what that means for his involvement with the standalone Batman movie, particularly since it was supposed to have been undergoing a thorough rewriting.
