Days of Our Lives fans are into the new year with some exciting new things happening in life, but we want to take a look back at something we didn’t touch on at all last year. It’s not really a last year thing, either. It’s a thing we’ve never really discussed, and that’s big since we do discuss so many things. For example, do you remember that time we talked about couples we wanted to see get back together? What about the ones we didn’t want to see get back together at all? What about those we dislike being together totally and completely? And now we want to talk about the couples who didn’t make it, but who should have been long-term couples who made it work and made it last. These are couples who were so good together, but they did not quite make it. And we wish that wasn’t so.
Nicole and Eric
She made the worst mistake and the biggest mistake of her life when she decided to end her relationship with him all those years ago. She was looking for a quick fix that would allow her to climb to the top and be with the man who could make her the wealthiest and the most powerful. She was a gold digger if ever there was one, and it made her lose everything that she should have spent her time trying to hold on to. They did end up back together over time, but there was too much damage and she’d already made too many enemies to make it work in a real manner. But we just know that this would have been beautiful if she’d put aside her need to be the woman who made the biggest impact and instead decided to spend her time changing the world alongside the man she loved. And perhaps, just perhaps, some lives would have been saved, Eric never would have gone to prison, and things would be very, very different.
Sami and Lucas
She’s a hot mess and he’s gone now, but they did make such a good couple. There were so many people who really felt that her place in life was to be with EJ, but we always liked to see her with Lucas. They did make Will, and they did work out nicely when they were together. They were more on par with one another than most of the couples around here, and we liked that. They did have some time with one another that worked so well for us, but they let EJ come between them. We suppose he is that man who just made such an impression on her that she just couldn’t let him go, but that doesn’t always work for us in a way that we can get on board with. We like Lucas and Sami. He gave her some of the balance she needed to keep her from becoming totally crazy, and we do miss that about her and about them.
Jack and Jennifer
There are those who don’t think that they were the match made in heaven that we thought they were, but we like them together. His death left an ugly hole in all of us, but this is something that they were able to overcome in terms of him showing back up and making a mess of everyone in the middle of what should have bene a happy moment for Abigail and Chad and their families as they realized that her daughter was also her husband’s. But he has no idea who he is, or who anyone in his family is, and that’s crushing. We do, however, hope this can turn into a second chance for them. They’ve come so far in this matter, and we hope that this can be a new beginning for them. She’s managed to avoid love and not find anyone else in the last few years, and we do assume it’s because she’s been unable to find someone whom she loves with the same vigor and excitement as she loves Jack. And that’s something we can get on board with in so many ways. Is this it? Is this the time that they can make it work?
