An awareness raising initiative, “Architects for animals,” recently invited architectural and design companies, as well as individual designers and architects of Los Angeles, California, to participate in an initiative of helping homeless cats of the city. The task was to design and build functional and modern outdoor dwellings for our little feline friends, which were then sold at the event to raise funds for the non-profit organization FixNation, trying to save as many kittens as possible.
Creativity here was limitless – from the cathedral-evoking perch with faux stained glass windows, including a humorous fish-shaped shelter and biomorphic trellis-pouf made from recycled plastic, Spanish moss and Korean grass, to a groovy spiral shelter assembled from a kit of interchangeable parts.
“This year‘s cat shelters were extraordinary creative, and the designers put a great deal of time and thought into how cats would actually interact with the shelters,” said FixNation Co-Founder and Executive Director Karn Mayers. “They are truly works of art with a practical application.” Scroll down to see them for yourself!
