There’s a long tradition of characters being used as little more than props in Star Wars and Constable Zuvio falls into that distinction. If you’re wondering just who in the world he is and why he would be in Star Wars episode 9 pay attention. He was briefly in episode 7, for about four whole frames when Rey and Finn were on the run from the storm troopers. That was the extent of Zuvio’s fame in the movie. However he did still receive and action figure modeled after him since he was part of the film. But like Yakface and Snaggletooth and a few others he’s one of the more obscure characters that collectors will generally only buy when they want to complete an entire set. Poor Zuvio, so sad.
But who he really is could end mattering now since it almost sounds like Rey will be returning to Jakku in the next episode. Let’s not speculate how it could emulate the original third movie in the original trilogy, that’s a long and twisting road with a lot of thorns ready to poke holes in whatever theory we might make up. In any case, being a lawman on Jakku, Zuvio could possibly come into contact at some point with Rey, or he could not. There’s no telling at the moment since there’s been next to nothing said about the next episode as it is, other than people claiming they won’t watch it since they were so disappointed in episode 8. When you look at it from a different perspective however this negative opinion that people have formulated comes from the change that’s come over the Star Wars universe. People won’t likely admit it but change is scary, it’s invasive, and it strives to recreate or replace everything you’ve known that came before in a way that might be unrecognizable from the origins that it came from.
Too many people want things to remain the same, and I’ll admit I’m guilty of this as well. But the story has to evolve and it has to change if it’s to go forward, otherwise it needs to be left alone and fans need to make up their minds whether they want something new and exciting or just more of the same. Star Wars has taken on a few leaps and bounds that people aren’t fully enjoying because of the direction that was taken, but honestly it’s a safe bet that you’ll still see those same people lining up for episode 9 just to ‘see what happens’. Whether Constable Zuvio is going to be there or not isn’t much of a question on people’s minds but it might be now leading up to the next episode since he’s gotten more attention at this point than he has since being created. If he does appear on Jakku in any manner it could only be as support for the most part, or as another backdrop character at least.
In any case maybe more articles like this will get to Abrams and make it happen. Or maybe he’ll just go down in obscurity like a great many characters in the franchise. We’re going to have to wait and see.
