We find ourselves in the midst of another thrilling Chicago Fire/Chicago P.D. crossover, and I couldn’t be more excited that the producers have embraced this concept. While every crossover so far has had a deeply personal connection to both the firehouse and the PD, this one may be the most spine-chilling of them all.
Arson, Murder, and a Chilling Connection
This week, Dawson and Severide’s investigation into Shay’s death confirms, without a doubt, that the fire that killed her was a result of arson. What Severide couldn’t have anticipated was that the clue leading to the arsonist would come from an old nemesis, Kevin Hadley. In exchange for a custom bed to alleviate the pain from his well-deserved burns, Hadley provides Severide with a note from the arsonist, which leads to an even more disturbing twist. The return postmark on the note is the location of a deadly fire that occurred more than two decades ago – the fire that claimed Mills’ father’s life. And just like that, we’re dealing with a serial killer.
Shay’s Sister Arrives and Bonds are Strengthened
The investigation brings Shay’s sister Megan to town, as their family seeks answers for Shay’s death. Megan begins to spend time with those who knew Shay, and through them, she gets to know her sister a little better. The stories, the ride-alongs, and the bonding over the arson investigation all culminate in a memorial ceremony in Shay’s honor. The firehouse comes together to pay tribute to Shay, have her name inscribed on the rig, and draw inspiration from Dawson about how Shay would’ve wanted them to live their lives.
Living Life in Memory of Shay
Inspired by the way Shay lived her life, her friends continue to honor her memory by following her lead. Despite the lingering awkwardness after their breakup, Dawson and Casey decide to put their relationship on hold indefinitely, leaving the door open for them to always be friends. Otis honors the dead by honoring the living, inviting his grandmother to stay with him and Cruz (she gets the bottom bunk). Of course, having Babushka in the next room doesn’t exactly help Cruz and Brett celebrate their three-month anniversary. Oh well. Boden also decides the best way for him to live is to do everything he must to keep his father alive for as long as possible.
The Arson Investigation Takes a Dark Turn
Back to the arson investigation, Severide and Captain Cunningham make enough progress to track down the arsonist, Adrian Gish. However, this guy exhibits all the traits of a sociopath, which means his move is to bring Shay up in conversation with Severide to provoke a reaction. Later on, the investigation takes a terrible turn when it is deemed that Gish cannot be charged at this time for Shay’s murder, or even the arson. Dawson has had enough though, and decides to place a call to her brother Antonio to ask for Intelligence’s help. If Voight and his team can’t make this right, no one can.
Chicago P.D. Takes Over the Investigation
This brings us into tomorrow’s conclusion on Chicago P.D. as Intelligence takes up the mantle on the investigation. How many more lives will this arsonist destroy before he is stopped?
