It appears as though the Florida Marlins gained an additional mascot at their home opener. The Marlins were host to the Atlanta Braves yesterday but things got a little weird when a cute little critter found its way onto the field in the six inning. The Marlins were fortunate enough to win the game by a score of 8-4. Afterwards Jeff Loria had this to say:
“Love what I saw tonight,” Loria said afterward in the Marlins’ clubhouse. “I saw a pretty good game. They’re very aggressive. Adding runs on, aggressive, running the bases, making good pitches when they had to.”
But once again the highlight of the game didn’t involve any players. Rather it involved a little cat who is now affectionately being called “Rally Cat.” According to ABC
A cat briefly interrupted a Miami Marlins-Atlanta Braves baseball game Tuesday after it ran onto the field in Miami. The start of the sixth inning was delayed while the cat roamed the outfield, dodging players and staff alike, before eventually scaling a wall and settling into the Marlins’ home run statue. Play resumed once the cat was safely out of the way, according to local ABC affiliate WPLG. The Marlins suspended use of the statue for the rest of the game to protect the cat, whom they’ve affectionately nicknamed “Rally Cat.”
