Rogue One proved that you didn’t need the entire Star Wars universe to make a Star Wars film successful. After it grossed over $1 billion at the box office and earned the respect of critics around the world, it’s no surprise that a Han Solo film is in development and there are talks of a solo Obi-Wan film. So what made the movie so great? When reading about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story one of my favorite quotes about the film has to do with the music. The folks at /film said it best in an article written yesterday.
Here’s the quote:
One of the ways Rogue One stands on its own is with the score composed by Michael Giacchino. He doesn’t use the main Star Wars theme prominently, mostly because the movie doesn’t have the traditional opening title and crawl. He also doesn’t go out of his way to frequently use the recognizable themes that John Williams composed for the original trilogy, which Rogue One most closely emulates. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t subtly use pieces of John Williams’ classic score when the story called for it.
