It’d be nice if some of the things that were possible in the Harry Potter movies could make the transition over to real life, wouldn’t it? When asked, a couple of the actors, Tom Felton and Warwick Davis, went into a little detail of what classes they would like to take and which spells they found the most interesting and the most useful. It’s easy to see how any of them would be tempting but you can also admit just which would be a little TOO tempting and possibly dangerous if used in the wrong manner. After all magic isn’t like technology, it doesn’t appear to have an off switch that can be used in times of emergency.
Anyway, just thinking about makes the idea tempting, so here’s what a Davis and Felton happen to think:
Warwick Davis was a regular teacher in the series that went through a couple of different looks until finally settling on the one that he would use until the last film. As Professor Flitwick he didn’t have a lot of lines but he was still a mainstay in the series that people would have missed. His ideal class is apparently Charms, which is more or less useful magic that can help a wizard or witch out when they need it but isn’t entirely offensive. It can be defensive however and is able to be used to great extent.
Davis also has said that Potions would be a useful class. When taking into consideration the fact that potions seems to cover at least a little of every aspect of the wizarding world it stands to reason that it could be a beneficial class or a very dangerous one. After all with concoctions such as liquid luck, love potions, polyjuice, and even truth serums, it would be easy for an individual gifted in potions to control just about anyone that they had a grudge against.
Davis’ favorite spell, and for obvious reasons he pointed out, would be Wingardium Leviosa. If you can’t say it right then ask Emma Watson since she knows the perfect pronunciation. Davis explains that he’d love to be able to levitate if only to be able to master life from a slightly different vantage point.
Tom Felton had a lot to say about his favorite spells but definitely seems to think that Lumos and Accio, a light spell and a summoning spell, would be most useful. It might make a person a little lazy to just be able to summon whatever they need with a simple spell but it could be used to summon things that are just out of reach as well. Lumos is pretty easy to figure out, a light spell could come in handy for any number of reasons, and unlike a flashlight could possibly last a bit longer since it’s dependent on the will of the individual.
It’s kind of funny that Felton would pick Flying as his favorite class since his character, Draco Malfoy, was such an adept flier in the books and in the movie. In all honesty he could outmaneuver Harry Potter on a broom but his arrogance was what kept him from winning all that often against the boy that lived.
It’d be interesting to find out just what the rest of the cast thought was the most useful spell and what class they would enjoy.
