The Top Five Carla Gugino Movies of Her Career

If you like movies, you’ve undoubtedly seen a number of them starring Carla Gugino. She’s been acting in movies and television for several years now, and she’s had some notable roles in big blockbusters, as well as smaller ensemble roles in other movies that are notable in and of themselves. Below are five of what many people consider to be her best roles, regardless of how big or small the role in question might be.

1. San Andreas (2015)

This was one of the most important summer blockbusters of 2015. If you haven’t already seen it, you’re among a very small percentage in the population. It stars Dwayne Johnson as a rescue pilot with the fire department in California during a major earthquake. In the movie, Gugino plays his estranged wife. The two have recently separated and are on the road to divorce, right up until the point in time where they realize that the only way to save their teenage daughter from this disaster is for the two of them to work together. You also have the chance to see her character’s strength in this role, as she is often right there with Johnson’s character, step for step, no matter how big the risk. It really is a good movie, and it’s worth seeing for its own merit, as well as for Gugino’s performance.

2. The Space Between Us (2017)

This is a movie that involves a lot of fantasy, although many people consider it to be more of a science fiction flick. It’s about a person that was born on Mars, who ultimately travels to Earth. It isn’t until he meets a girl on earth that he starts to find his true path in life. Eventually, the two of them develop a close relationship, but their differences make it hard for them to be together. This movie involves a lot of adventure and personal angst, two things that make most movies worth watching in the first place.

3. Wolves (2016)

If you’re trying to guess what this movie is about by looking at its title, forget it. It doesn’t have anything to do with wolves in the literal sense, yet it has everything to do with them in a more metaphorical concept. It’s actually a movie about a youth basketball team and the struggles that some of the individuals on that team are forced to go through at the hands of others. The wolves referred to in the title is actually a reference to those individuals who prey on others when they are deemed to be weaker or beneath them. It’s a good movie with an interesting message. Although it wasn’t well received at the time it was released, it’s definitely one that’s worth checking into. It might become a new favorite of yours, too.

4. New Year’s Eve (2011)

Gugino did not have a very big part in this movie, but it was a memorable one, to say the least. The fact that the movie featured an ensemble cast meant that no one person really saw a great deal of air time, yet it turned out to be one of the better movies released that year. In this particular instance, Gugino plays a doctor that is there to help a couple deliver a baby. She’s quite spiritual in nature and by all accounts, many of the things she says and does are just funny. She brings a lighthearted flair to a movie that can be extremely serious at times, successfully balancing out the story so that it packs a punch without becoming too much of a burden for the viewers to watch.

5. Faster (2010)

This is another movie where she stars with Dwayne Johnson. Although her part isn’t quite as big in this movie, she definitely steals the show in the scenes that she is in. Most people are familiar with the story, as this is the one that started the Fast and the Furious franchise. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s worth checking out. It’s also something that gives you a little bit better insight into some of her earlier work.

She was also great in Sin City and American Gangster though she had much lesser roles.
