10 Things You Didn’t Know about Cam Ayala

Some people smile because they are genuinely happy, but others do so to hide their pain. Cam Ayala can be said to use his fun-loving personality for both purposes. Most of us know him from “The Bachelorette” where he hoped to win Hannah Brown’s heart. However, there is more to him as told on Cheat Sheet and Your Tango.

1. He almost lost one of his legs

Health is a blessing, and unfortunately, sometimes, it takes sickness to appreciate it. Cam Ayala knows too well the pain that illness causes since he was 12. In 2002, he was diagnosed with lymphedema and doctors said he could not play competitive sports yet that is all he wanted to do. For the past five years, Cam has experienced seven episodes of infections, 13 surgeries, two broken relationships, and lost three promotion opportunities. After the 13 surgical procedures, doctors unanimously agreed to amputate his leg, but in 2016, surgeons at Boston Children’s Hospital saved his leg.

2. He has a degree in communications

Cam may be one guy that can get on the nerves of any impatient person, but he has his life in order. He went to Texas A&M University in 2008 and graduated in 2011 with a degree in communications and media studies. Maybe it is the degree that facilitates his extrovert personality, and it has come in handy in enabling him to perform his duties as the ambassador for Lymphedema. As for his career, it seems like the degree he did not finish at Hardin-Simmons University helped him to land a sales area manager position at Tableau Software.

3. He is musically talented

Cam Ayala knew how to make an entrance and ensure he did not go home on the first night. He, therefore, decided to showcase his musical talent by rapping to Hannah Brown on the “Bachelorette.” Cam rapped about his excitement to want to know her on a more profound level, and it worked because he got the first rose. However, the charm did not get him the final rose. Cam also plays the harmonica, and his rapping skills are not limited to winning a girl’s heart. He can rap about anything according to Hollywood Life.

4. He is a lymphatic education celebrity ambassador

Cam was chosen to be a celebrity ambassador for the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) on May 2019. Cam revealed that he had suffered in silence since 2000 but not because he was seeking pity but because he wanted a normal life fulfilled by hard work. According to his blog post on LE&RN, he said that he is angry from the public’s lack of awareness of the disease. He is now motivated to help others learn by sharing his story.

5. He barely sticks to one job

If there is one thing that employers are wary of whenever they receive a resume, it is a prospective candidate who keeps shifting from one job to another. At that point, their loyalty becomes questionable, and Cam Ayala is that kind of employee. From his Linked In profile, the longest he has ever stuck to a job is two years and three months. All his other jobs do not last for more than two years.

6. He thrives on popularity

Cam Ayala always wants to be the center of attention, even as evidenced by his high school days. He attended Langham Creek High School and not only was he in the basketball team, but he also was a cheerleader during football season. Cam also took part in theater and was a finalist in a popularity contest labeled “Mr. Lobo.” With his mantra “Always Be Cam,” he seems to not make apologies for stepping on anyone’s toes. Perhaps that is the reason his fellow contestants said he was seeking a pity rose when he told Hannah Brown about his illness. Cam was determined to do whatever it takes to be the center attention. In his high school jacket, he had the words “Sir Camelot” sewn in the front, according to Chron.

7. He can be indecisive

Usually, most teenagers take on the career path chosen for them by their parents. Cam Ayala, whether it is because he cannot be decisive or he can’t stay in one place for too long, found himself switching universities. Cam went to Hardin-Simmons University and studied business administration and general management between 2007 and 2008. Cam later moved to Texas A&M University to study bachelor of Communications and Media studies and graduated in 2011.

8. He has a criminal past

We have all done stupid things, especially in our youth that we wish we could go back in time and erase them. Cam Ayala is no exception, and he seems to have been a party king even taking on an alias of “Poppa Smurf.” Cam spent some time in jail for marijuana possession as well as delivering or manufacturing a controlled substance in a drug-free area. He was later released after paying a total bond of $9,000 for both crimes.

9. He does not expect to understand him

We all have a story that sometimes we want to tell but fear that people will judge us and misunderstand. Then again, everyone’s journey has been different, so we are warned that unless you are willing to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, then do not be hasty to dismiss their life story. Cam Ayala disclosed that he suffers from an incurable disease called lymphedema. According to Heavy, Cam said that no one should be ashamed to tell their story even though not everyone will understand them.

10. He loves a woman with good dental hygiene

Beauty is said to lie in the eyes of the beholder, and so everyone will be attracted to whatever appeals to them. Some men will go for long legs, a beautiful face and shapely body. However, a woman may have all that, but unless Cam deems her oral hygiene to be superb, then he will not date her.
