While Bill Cosby has absolutely nothing to say about his pending allegations against him, he did speak out about a different issue that is affecting his life: his vision. In a new interview with NNPA Newswire, the 79-year-old actor and comedian spoke publicly for the first time in years. However, while he did not address his impending trial for felony charges of aggravated indecent assault, he did confirm one bit of health news–he is blind. As he recalled to the outlet, two years ago he was walking with his wife Camille Cosby when he suddenly could not see. Doctors confirmed his sight could not be repaired.
With regards to his career Cosby did have something to add:
“I miss it all and I hope that day will come,” he told the outlet. “I have some routines and storytelling that I am working on. I think about walking out on stage somewhere in the United States of America and sitting down in a chair and giving the performance that will be the beginning of the next chapter of my career.”
So how can we react to all of this? I’ll put it very simply. If he’s innocent (which I don’t think he is) I feel kind of bad for the guy. He would have gone through this entire mess of an ordeal for all these years in the last remaining years of his life and be blind through the entire thing. Now let’s assume the other scenario, that he’s guilty.
Assuming Cosby is guilty I can only say that the reason I would feel bad about his blindness is not because of the affliction or that he’s suffering. I would feel bad because the victims of his countless acts of sexual abuse wouldn’t have the satisfaction of looking at his face knowing he could see their reactions when the jury said “guilty.”
