Have you ever heard of the television show Billions? If you’ve never seen it, you’re missing out on something that you might really enjoy. Granted, the name doesn’t sound all that interesting and in fact, there’s a better than average chance that the title of the show itself actually turns some people off. With that being said, a lot of people that never give the show a chance based on its title have no idea what it’s really about.
The show itself is a fast-paced series involving the characters of Chuck Rhoades, a US attorney and Bobby Axelrod, who is in hedge funds. There’s a lot of give-and-take between these two. They can’t stand each other and the show focuses a lot on that never ending battle between good and evil, right and wrong. The problem is, you don’t always know exactly who is on the side of right when it comes to this show. It’s not as easy as you might think to tell who’s doing something for the right reasons and who’s just trying to get back at the other individual in question.
By all accounts, people that start out watching the show automatically think that the character of Chuck Rhoades is going to be the one wearing the white hat, simply because he’s a US attorney. While people don’t always have the highest opinion of lawyers, they have an even less favorable opinion of people that are involved in hedge funds and other types of business practices. With that type of thinking, you might find yourself confused early on. There are a lot of grey areas that are discussed in this show and there’s more than a fair share of corruption on both sides. It all happens because there is something much deeper going on than what you notice right off the bat.
Rhoades has a wife named Wendy and she works for Bobby Axelrod in a professional capacity at his office. By trade, she’s a psychologist but she’s working as something of a life coach for this particular firm. This drives her husband absolutely crazy because he feels like he can’t take Axelrod down without bringing down the entire company and everyone else who works there, including his wife. Despite his numerous attempts to convince her to quit, she refuses to do so. She makes a strong case that her career goals are just as important as his own and that he shouldn’t be going after someone just because he has a personal vendetta against them. This actually pits husband against wife and in many cases, it becomes almost impossible to perceive who is really the most corrupt individual in this series.
As you can see, the show is about a lot more than the name implies. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, you’ll be glad to know that you can binge watch it online. However, this is a show that you have to pay a lot of attention to. It’s not one where you can miss episodes and then pick up where you left off or even leave the room for a few minutes without missing some important detail. If you don’t pay attention to every scene and watch the show in chronological order, you’re going to end up so confused you won’t know what’s going on. However, if you like the idea of something that moves at a fast-pace and keeps your mind engaged from beginning to end, this is a show that you really should consider watching.
