There’s a new love show in town, and it’s going to sound a lot like one that you might’ve been obsessed with before. The minds behind The Bachelor have teamed up again to bring us The Proposal, a new dating series that will air on ABC this coming summer.
The Proposal will be a pageant-style dating show, where 10 eligible daters will compete to get the coveted “Yes” response for their individual proposals. The show will last for 10 episodes, and each episode will follow either a female or male dater. The daters will have a chance to woo their secret suitor (or suitress) in pageant-style rounds such as first impression, beachwear, a question and answer portion, and even a “family approval” portion. Those who just can’t make a connection to their suitors will unfortunately be eliminated from the show. When there are only two left, the big reveal happens. The daters will only then find out who it was they were courting this entire time. The end goal is to see which of the two finalists will finally get the answer they’ve been waiting for.
The show is produced by Mike Fleiss, the creator of The Bachelor. According to Fleiss, there’s a lot of excitement going on about the show, especially since he’s been dropping hints nonstop on social media. Fleiss is also excited to welcome back a Bachelor alumnus, Jesse Palmer, to be the show’s host.
It’s certainly a nice draw for previous Bachelor fans considering that Palmer was one of the favorites. Since his stint on The Bachelor, Palmer has seamlessly transitioned into sports broadcasting and various TV personality work. During his time at the show, Palmer ironically did not propose to the finalist, Jessica Bowlin. While they left the show as a couple, they split up not too long after leaving the show. His most recent work is on the syndicated show DailyMail TV as a host.
There are a lot of things to look forward to this coming summer, and ABC is changing the game with this new style of dating on screen. The pageant-style is certainly not an original idea, but the way the producers and creators have approached it to fit the Bachelor-type of dating is quite creative. The twist at the end is also interesting, and it’ll be interesting to find out if we’re all going to be in the dark about whom the mystery suitor or suitress will be. On one hand, it’ll be fun to see how the daters interact with the suitor behind silk screens. But on the other hand, it might be nice as well to be part of the surprise in the end.
We’ll just have to tune in this summer; although, no premiere dates have been announced just yet. As successful as the Bachelor franchise has been, we have full trust that Fleiss and his crew know what they’re doing. If they have already picked who the suitor/suitress will be this upcoming season, then they’re keeping it under wraps pretty well. We’ll be on the lookout to see who the daters will be and where this whole season will be taking place. It’ll be somewhere romantic, we’re sure–a la Bachelor style.
