This Australian wildlife parody done in the style of the 70’s is kind of disturbing in a way but it’s still funny. Watching the koala bear stretch its neck out that far was extremely creepy, but finding out that it lives on ham and cheese is something I didn’t expect. Of course then there’s the rest of it that just seems an oddball way to go about a parody. The bush ranger in the show is just flat out strange and the relationship he has with a crocodile is something right out of a nightmarish spoof that one can’t help but shake their head at. Is this all comedy in Australia? Or is this show just a special case?
I know one thing from looking at the actual wildlife clips I’ve seen about Australia, their local animals are no joke. Some of the most dangerous creatures seem to inhabit Australia and in the wilds a few of them are downright deadly. This show is a spoof on a lot of that and could possibly be seen as funny to those that enjoy the 70’s style humor that was so hilarious back in the day but this comes off as more than a little campy and in some ways enough to make a person scratch their head and wonder what they’re watching. Obviously there are shows in every country that would make people do the same thing, but we’re talking about this one at the moment.
I suppose it’s enough to see a spoof and enjoy the supposed slang that’s thrown around within the clip just to get a bit of amusement out of this but really the last few Australian-based clips I watched were miles above this one simply for the fact that they were kind of interesting. I don’t want to be mean but this something like you might seen on Adult Swim in the wee hours of the morning when even the chickens haven’t decided to wake yet. The level of effort put into this thing is kind of along the no-budget range rather than the low-budget but at the very least they did try to do something. I kind of wonder if this is a long-running spoof series or if there was a one and done mentality that might have allowed the actors to save just a little bit of face.
Spoofs are something that are meant to be funny and yet at times can get a little creepy and so far out there that you have to pull back and wonder just why people made the attempt in the first place. This one could be better if there were a few actual clips of animals put into the spoof in order to make it just a bit more interesting. That however might have ended up making it a little too expensive to make and possibly ruin any chance of it getting onto YouTube altogether.
I would love to say that would have been a shame but at this point I’m trying to hold back a gale of laughter at the mere thought of it.
