Anthony Gonzalez is a young American actor taking Hollywood by storm one movie at a time. Gonzalez is best known for voicing Miguel in Coco for which he won three awards. Aside from Coco, the young actor has appeared in television projects such as The Bridge (2014), Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (2017), and The Last Ship (2018). Gonzalez has also expanded his horizon to include video game credits. He is also a talented singer.
Growing up in a family where music is much loved rubbed off on Anthony Gonzalez. As such, his passion for the performing arts began with music. Gonzalez grew up with two sisters and two brothers who are music lovers. Thus, they grew up performing mariachi music as a family. He was four when he joined the family band and at that tender age, Gonzalez knew music was his calling. He gradually made his way into the entertainment industry as a child performer. Anthony Gonzalez was introduced to television audiences in 2013 as a contestant on El Factor X, the Latin American version of the British music competition The X Factor. Alfonso de Anda hosted the competition while Belinda Peregrín, Angélica María, and Nacho were judges. Gonzalez finished off as a finalist in the competition.

After his El Factor X competition, Anthony Gonzalez launched his acting career with a voice role as Cody in Como mi hermano (2013). He then made a guest appearance in one episode of The Bridge in 2014 and followed it up with another one-episode appearance on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders as Polaroid in 2017. Gonzalez also appeared in the 2015 short film, Imagination of Young as Bruno.
Anthony Gonzalez was nine years old when he began auditioning for a role in Disney-Pixar’s Coco but it took four years to secure the contract. As such, he was 13 when he voiced the lead character Miguel Rivera in the 2017 Pixar film Coco to rave reviews. Gonzalez embodied the character perfectly, thanks to the fact that they share many things in common, including an interest in music. However, his family is very supportive of his dreams unlike Miguel’s. Between 2017 and 2018, Gonzalez received three accolades for the voice performance.
After Coco, Anthony Gonzalez became a household name, receiving more attention from producers. 2018 was a prolific year for the young actor who appeared in four projects. He played Oscar in Icebox (2018), a movie about immigration. Gonzalez also appeared in four episodes of The Last Ship as Simon Barros and three episodes of Shameless as Santiago in the same year. Gonzalez was seen in the 2019 American comedy film, Grand-Daddy Day Care as Jordan Collins. Far Cry 6, a 2021 video game featured him in multiple roles, including character model. He voiced Diego Castillo in the game.
Awards and Recognition
While he is still relatively new in the industry, Anthony Gonzalez has won many hearts with his awe-inspiring performances. In 2017, he received the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association award for Best Animated Voice Performance for his depiction of Miguel in Coco. The same role earned him two awards in 2018 – an Annie Award for Best Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production and a Teen Choice Award for Choice Fantasy Movie Actor.
