In recent months, there has been a spurt of sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations being made against celebrities. One after another, it has come to light that some of the best-loved celebrities have possibly behaved in a variety of inappropriate ways towards their female colleagues and other women. For the most part, the male celebrities in question have denied all the allegations against them. In other instances, the stars have apologized for their behavior and stated they did not intend any malice or suggested that their words or actions have been misconstrued.
As with all incidents of this type, their co-stars and fellow celebrities have all had their say on the allegations made and given their opinions on the matter. Some have supported the accused male celebrities and others have stated they are not surprised and provided accounts of their own negative experiences relating to the accused.
Some celebrities have even caused controversy with their comments and the latest person to do this is Angela Lansbury. The veteran actress, who is best-known for playing the lead role in ‘Murder She Wrote’, is a socialist and is considered by many to be a national treasure of the United States. However, even many of her fans were surprised by her recent comments relating to the various sexual harassment allegations.
Her comments were made during an interview with the British Radio Times. During the interview, Lansbury was asked for her thoughts on the wave of sexual assault allegations against Hollywood stars that have come to light since those accusing Harvey Weinstein of such offenses went public.
In response, Angela Lansbury suggested that there are two sides to every coin and inferred that women are partially at fault for these incidents. In her answer, she said that throughout time women have always made effort to look their best and to appeal to men. For this reason, she thinks that women should take some responsibility for the situation there is now between men and women in modern society.
She went on to admit that it seemed an awful thing to say, but that if women always make the best of themselves, they cannot do so without being knocked down or raped. It was this comment that has caused outrage on social media with fans expressing their shock that she would make such controversial comments. She was also widely criticized for her remarks by other celebrities.
In her defense, she did say that women shouldn’t expect to be treated in this way and prepare for this and nor do they deserve it. It is not the 92-year-old actress’ belief that this is the way that men should treat women and that there is no excuse for this type of behavior. In fact, she also said in the interview that she hoped the latest wave of allegations would put an end to this kind of situation occurring. She commented that many men must be very worried at the moment as more and more women are coming forward and going public with their allegations.
