Andy Rehfeldt is Making Disney Cover Versions of Metal Songs

From what I did find, and could not transfer over for some reason, the act of making Disney versions out of metal songs seems just, well, for lack of a better word, wrong. Making Disney songs into metal versions actually seems more acceptable than this practice but I won’t criticize Andy Rehfeldt for trying. Obviously he thought this would be a great idea and it might have seemed that way in his head, but if it still seemed that way when he was done then I think he’s been spending a little too much time online and not enough time in the real world, no offense.

There are covers of some songs that are all well and fine but Disney and metal has yet to find the really good fit that other genres have done. I’m sure that eventually there will come a time when something of Disney’s will be able to step into the metal genre and it will work out for the best. But as of now trying to make Disney versions of metal bands is just kind of silly.

For one thing metal bands got into their type of music for a reason, and it wasn’t to be cute or  cuddly in any way. It was to be hard, tough, and possessed of an edgy nature that differentiated it from regular rock and roll. Metal is a little too hard for Disney just as Disney is a little too soft to translate well to metal. The two just aren’t that compatible at the moment, in my humble opinion. Rock and roll and Disney is definitely a go, as is hip hop and pop and even country, gospel, jazz, and a few other faster, more kid-friendly beats. Metal just doesn’t have the inherent qualities that other music has to pull off a Disney vibe. Even if it translates over it tends to sound ridiculous.

It sounds very exclusionary to say these kinds of things but the truth is that some stuff just doesn’t mix. There’s a link somewhere that can somehow be exploited to make it work, but there will always be that distance that can’t quite be bridged. There is usually something else that’s needed, a catalyst of some sort, to bring those two opposing forces together. What that might be in relation to Disney and metal music I couldn’t tell you, but I do believe it’s there.

Also, the fact is that there aren’t a lot of metal songs that have an overall Disney feel to them when they’re created. Bands like Slipknot, Slayer, Megadeath, and many more don’t necessarily create their songs thinking about shiny, happy situations that might allow them to sing an upbeat and cheerful song. Metal is more hardcore, more driving beats and wailing guitars that sound more like they belong in a thrilling action movie or a terrifying but somehow action-packed horror film.

Putting forth a Disney version of a song definitely calls for something with a little more positive of a note and something a lot more whimsical.
