I don’t think people really understood just how big Andre the Giant was unless they experienced him in person. I never did unfortunately. But I think the moment I realized just how much of a “giant” he was, was in the movie The Princess Bride. It was when Indigo Montoya put his hands in Andre’s hands and you saw just how massive Andre’s hands were. I mean sure, you look at him in interviews and all that but to see a grown man’s hands get completely swallowed up by his hands was a defining moment of his sheer size.
Back in 1980 the good citizens of Japan got a taste of Andre’s sheer size when he had to take up two of their seats to take a flight home. Seriously. Look at this guy. And then look behind him. Notice how every row has two people? Andre can barely fit in a two person set up. Also, he’s got white Asics sneakers on with Red Trim. that’s just awesome, period. You’d think this picture was a photoshop but it’s not.
I’d be curious to know if the plane was slightly leaning in the Giant’s direction for the duration of the flight. You never know.
