American Idol Alum Antonella Barba Gets 4 Years for Drug Distribution

Antonella Barba

One kind of gets the feeling that the story of Antonella Barba’s life is, at this point, going to read like a series of bad choices that might have been helped out had she decided to just pace herself and not try to do everything at once. The American Idol alum has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for drug distribution as Bruce Haring of Deadline has reported, and honestly just looking over the life she’s led to this point it’s enough to make a person think that she’s been trying, but she’s been fouling up along the way as well in ways that might not have been deemed as unavoidable. And all this was made possible it seems as according to her family the act of being cut from American Idol was what sent her life on such a downward slide. Take a moment just to breathe that in and realize what’s being said here, that an elimination from a contest caused her to start ferrying drugs for a drug ring that she’s been busted for a couple of times now, no matter that she was released to the custody of her parents the first time. Each time she’s been caught it would seem that her lawyer has been able to get her a slap on the wrist, but not this time apparently. At this point she now has to face the music finally, which seems like at least some justice.

But really, an elimination got her down this much? That’s not being driven and determined, that’s being obsessed with something on a level that’s just flat out disturbing. At this point she’s even taken to blaming the show for the fall from grace that she’s taken which is, as any reasonable, thinking person might deduce, kind of childish as well as ridiculous. Just to prove this point, think about how many people have been rejected and gone on to have a pleasing career afterwards. Now think about how many have tried, been cut at one point or another, and still haven’t gone on to waste their lives by getting involved in any way with drugs, or even having a picture themselves taken by a World War II memorial with a wet t-shirt. Scandal seems to be this young woman’s choice and blaming anyone but herself seems to be the default she falls back on when the consequences of said choices come back to bite her in the rear. What’s even funnier about this, apart from the fact that she might have some talent and an ability to take her career to a higher level if she could temper her obsessive need to succeed, is that Antonella is worth about $5 million at this time. That’s right, she’s worth a bundle and yet feels the need to perform acts that are bound to get her locked up, so maybe she is a true celebrity after all.

The cynicism isn’t nearly as thick as it could be since quite honestly it’s fair to say that those with money have issues as well, as this situation proves. Yet allowing the reality of being cut from competition to become the reasoning why you fail is the sign of a quitter that doesn’t know how to accept defeat and therefore is an all or nothing kind of person. While this is a respectable mindset in some people, it’s not possible for everyone since those that live the all or nothing lifestyle typically find a way to be continuously successful without torpedoing their chances at sustaining their goals and creating new opportunities for themselves. As of right now some folks might know who Antonella is and they might agree that she does have some talent, after all you’ve got to have at least enough talent to actually get on American Idol, which means that she wowed the judges just enough to make it past the initial screening. But once the competition heats up it’s bound to keep getting harder and harder and despite the pressure that continues to mount, people come to realize that the winner’s podium continues to shrink the further along one goes. Any mistakes, slips, or trips on that stage and there’s a good chance that someone will be going home that didn’t want to. But rarely, if ever, has it been seen that someone has the audacity to blame the distribution of drugs of any kind on their failure to win American Idol. Antonella can probably claim a first for this one.

Given that she was busted for roughly the same thing twice it’s hard to believe that she wasn’t guilty the first time, but oh well, this time she didn’t get away with it. She might have a nice voice and a good deal of talent, but obviously she wasn’t able to sing a convincing tune for the judge when it came to sentencing.
