Ringer Episode 6 Recap: Bridget’s Betrayal

Nothing about this week’s episode of Ringer turned out as I had predicted. This episode picked up shortly where the last one left off and we saw Henry cleaning up the bloody evidence in his house. Later, Andrew returned home to tell Bridget he was confused about Gemma’s whereabouts and suggested she look in on her friend the next day. Bridget did call on Gemma the next morning, but only found her husband.

The thing is, Henry immediately accused Bridget/Siobhan of getting rid of Gemma, which Siobhan had hinted at in a flashback. Bridget, of course, denied doing anything wrong, but Henry was worried the whole situation would be turned on him. Only it turns out that Henry didn’t have to worry about someone getting suspicious, because Bridget took care of things, but not in a way that Henry will like. First, she went to the dumpster where Henry had disposed of the evidence and deliberately touched a piece of the broken lamp. Then, she called in an anonymous tip about Gemma’s disappearance.

Naturally, the police turned up on Henry’s doorstep post haste and immediately started questioning him about Gemma’s disappearance. He was clearly thrown, particularly when they asked about the garbage bag full of broken lamp pieces that he had gone to great lengths to hide. Later, the cops let him go, which is good for Henry, but I have a feeling the case against him is just building.

Meanwhile, Agent Machado decided it was time to track down a missing Malcolm. He ended up searching Macawi’s club, but found no evidence of the drugged and beaten man. He abandoned his search when the police in NYC called with surprising news: Bridget’s fingerprints had been found on the broken lamp involved in Gemma’s disappearance. Now Machado is heading back to the city and he called up ‘Siobhan’to tell her he was going to be seeing her about Bridget very soon.

Finally, Juliet headed off to her first day at public school which went about as well as could be expected. Her nice clothes immediately caught the eye of one of the school’s mean girls who eventually goaded Juliet into a fight. The principal and her father got involved and the poor girl expressed her frustration to her teacher (Jason Dohring), who decided to let her gain a new start and lied to the principal while backing up Juliet’s story.

We ended this week’s Ringer in Paris with Siobhan, as we often do. A mysterious man told her the deed had been done, and she expressed regret that things had to turn out like this.

What things, Siobhan?! It seems like the show is telling us that Siobhan had Gemma killed. Was it because she was a threat to Bridget’s secret, which Siobhan wants to keep, at least for a while. Or was it to protect Henry because she has lingering feelings for her lover? And are we absolutely certain that Siobhan is behind Gemma’s death (assuming Gemma is even dead)? So many questions, so few answers.

Like I said, I thought that Henry was guilty, so what happened in this episode was shocking, as were Bridget’s actions. Turning Henry in was cold and seemed a bit short-sighted. After all, what’s to stop him from pointing the finger at ‘Siobhan’? I also can’t figure out why she deliberately left her fingerprints on the evidence. Was it to create a false trail leading to Bridget while keeping herself protected? Was it to gain Machado’s attention? Again, so many questions.

Overall, this was definitely an enjoyable episode of Ringer, although Malcolm’s storyline continues to drag. Through no fault of his own, of course, but it just seems to be pointless with all the action happening in New York. But if the show really did kill Gemma, then I’m going to be very upset. She was just getting awesome!
