It’s that time of year after all, and it’s not hard to see that many people are taking their artistic talents and using them to reimagine some of our favorite childhood icons as terrifying spooks that would gladly tear people to pieces and haunt their waking dreams as well as their nightmares. Some folks might find the Muppets off-putting anyway, but when seen in a different light it’s easy to think that they might even creepier since imagining Kermit as Norman Bates is, well, actually sounds like something that could happen since simply having Miss Piggy around that often might drive anyone a little mad…sometimes. But Beaker as Michael Myers and Bunsen as Samuel Loomis? Okay, maybe, since Beaker doesn’t really come across as a mentally sound individual anyway. One has to wonder why the artist picked the Muppets that are showcased here, but the criticism that some might levy wouldn’t be necessary since the picks are interesting and quite on target since the Swedish Chef being made up as Leatherface is pretty kooky but it’s downright funny. Trying to match each Muppet to a horror counterpart couldn’t have been easy but it’s definitely amusing since it causes a backstory to emerge in the minds of at least some viewers. Just imagine what drove Beaker to become a homicidal maniac, or when the Chef started thinking of expanding his culinary expertise. See? It’s easy to make up a story by switching the characters, and a lot of fun.
Here are a few more Muppets that have been turned into horror characters.
Okay, Animal WAS my favorite Muppet…and he still is, but it’s a good idea to keep your distance from him at this moment since his reimagining as Buffalo Bill is a little disturbing, to say the least since it’s easy to think that this might have been a secret that Animal had been keeping in for a long time. But what would push Rolf to the limit that would make him consider that eating his own kind would be so acceptable? One has to wonder what a Muppeet tastes like, would the stuffing inside be edible, or would it be used for something completely different? One might have to understand Muppet anatomy to really comprehend this turn. But Sam Eagle a Pinhead? Yeah, that kind of fits just from his look to be honest, but it would kind of horrifying to see just how he might turn some of the other Muppets into Cenobites.
Maybe Scooter got tired of being treated like an extra? He and Skeeter have been a part of the crew for a while, but it does feel as though they don’t get that much respect at times, which could drive anyone a little nutty. But Dr. Teeth, Janice, and the rest obviously feel as though they’re about to go on a wild and violent tear that will only end badly without any doubt. It’s enough to wonder though if they were to die in a hail of bullets, would someone be able to restuff them and stitch them back up? Oof, just when you thought the old buzzards couldn’t get any creepier they have to go and raise the bar a little more. One definitely has to give respect to the artist for coming up with some of the craziest and most terror-inducing images they could think of when it comes to the Muppets.
When I’m through laughing I’ll comment on Gonzo Voorhees…okay, all done. The mask is hilarious to be certain and the idea that Gonzo could be ultra-violent is even more so, but maybe with Camilla acting as his ‘mother’, it’s likely that he could go a little nuts and start hacking away at anyone that dares to laugh at him. But wait, isn’t that the point of Gonzo? No, that’s the point of Fozzie, who doesn’t appear capable of telling jokes that don’t end in a torrent of tomatoes being lobbed in his direction most times. But at least as Fozzie Krueger he can slice and dice the flying fruit without much trouble, and can then revisit those that didn’t get the jokes and deliver the punchline in person. It’s kind of hard to run away in your dreams, which would probably be perfect for Fozzie Krueger since he could get through a set without anyone bailing on him. But neither of these guys really hold a candle to Miss Piggy doubling up as Carrie, since she’s violent and temperamental enough when she’s not covered in pig’s blood, ironic, and looking ready to go nuts on everyone. Just imagine Miss Piggy with telekinetic powers and a seriously messed-up need for revenge, and it’ll be enough to make you swear off the Muppets for a while since the implications are kind of terrifying.
