It’s great to have fans, but there are times when fans take things a little too far for the stars’ liking. During an interview Adam Driver actually told of time when an obsessed fan dressed as Kylo Ren followed him to his hotel and started asking around if people had seen him. This makes you wonder just how unnerving the situation might have been had they actually found him, but when Adam caught wind of it one can only imagine just how anxious it made him feel since being approached by fans is one thing, but being sought out in this manner by fans is something entirely different. Seeing one of your favorite actors walking along the sidewalk, or in an airport, or in any public space isn’t always an invitation to start taking pictures and asking for selfies or autographs, but if a person is polite enough and approaches them with some sense of decency many stars don’t mind taking the time to accommodate a fan, provide they’re not busy or simply don’t want to. There are way too many fans out there that tend to be pushy and even kind of bossy around their favorite stars and make the experience quite uncomfortable, but to have someone, or several someones, actually searching for you in a hotel, which is meant to be a private space once you close the door to your room, is kind of creepy.
From a physical standpoint Adam Driver is a pretty good-sized individual since he stands at 6’2″ and is pretty solidly built. But despite all that and the fact that he was member of the Marine Corps after September 11th, 2001, he’s tried to create less of an imposing image as he was initially seen as kind of intimidating during his first foray into acting. But one has to wonder what might really happen if he was in fact confronted by an obsessed fan that unnerved him to such a degree. Drive only spent a little over two years in the Corps but given that those that are allowed into the military don’t tend to get by without being fit and able to fight it does seem a though it might be interesting to see what might happen if a fan decided to get just a little too aggressive with Driver. Likely as not he’d do his best to not engage someone in hand to hand combat but it still poses an interesting question as to what might happen to any fan that puts him on edge enough to make him defensive. The chances of this are pretty slim since even obsessive fans aren’t too likely to take things so far that they’d result in a physical altercation. As Kevin Burwick of MovieWeb states it could be worse, as nothing really came of the stalking, but it did manage to make Adam rather nervous. After all there’s no telling just how crazy some hardcore fans can get or what they’re willing to do.
Depending on who you ask Kylo Ren has either been a very popular character or kind of a temperamental individual with way too much emotion and not enough substance. Like I said though it’s a matter of opinion and in my own Kylo is something of a quandary since it would almost sound as though he’s never been too certain just way he would lean since Luke sensed the darkness in him and thought to end Ben’s life before he could become Kylo Ren, but Rey seems to think that he can be saved. Then there’s Kylo’s own uncertainty when it comes to his character and how he interacts with Snoke. There’s bad in the guy, but it’s kind of hard to say that there’s not a desire to do good either. The major downfall here is that Kylo had a great teacher who failed him, then moved on to a flawed mentor that shaped the raw power he had into something hateful and ultimately ruled by emotion, which makes him extremely volatile when he wants to be or is angered in some monumental way. The manner in which he deals with emotions is akin to wildly swinging pendulum that is fixated on everything negative, moving back and forth along that part of the spectrum. He’s not in any way a stable character and unless The Rise of Skywalker is going to straighten things out it doesn’t seem as though he’ll be able to continue onward since the bad guy has to finally get his comeuppance, and Kylo has been wracking up serious bad guy points since he’s been in the movies.
Having fans is great since it means that actors are doing something right, but fan that take things too far and invade a stars privacy not only need to get a life, they just need to get away, period.
