Our Five Favorite Pieces of News from D23

Epcot

As Disney continues to get bigger and bigger you can expect to see new exhibits, rides, and attractions rolling out as they continue to wow and amaze the crowds with their continually expanding repertoire, adding one piece after another as they continue to expand ever outward with their new acquisitions. One might believe that in another decade that Disneyland in California might be its own city while Disneyworld in Florida, which is its own city in many ways, might become its own state. That might sound hard to believe or swallow but when you look at how quickly they’re expanding and how insanely big they’re becoming thanks to the continued inclusion of the many properties they’ve taken on, it’s not so hard to believe. Fans that are just growing up with this rapid expansion are no doubt going to be highly impressed by the new attractions and exhibits that are coming out, while those of us that remember Saturday morning cartoons and when Disney was centered largely around a single mouse and his friends might be wondering how far that reach is going to go.

Here are some of the biggest announcements that D23 has been handing out.

5. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Jungle Cruise are being refurbished.

Given that these are both big favorites of a lot of people it’s not too hard to see why Disney would put a good amount of work into them in order to get each attraction up to snuff and running at maximum efficiency once again. It does kind of help that Jungle Cruise has a movie coming out that’s based on it since otherwise the attraction might have remained something fit for the older generation that needs a rest now and then while walking through the park. It’s also interesting to note, as Jessica Rawden from CinemaBlend did, that Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, the stars of said upcoming movie, were on hand for this event.

4. There’s actually a dress code for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction.

Jessica Figueroa of WDW News Today outlines how the park has made it perfectly fine for kids to come into the Star Wars attraction wearing costumes and even masks so long as they don’t limit their peripheral vision. It’s not exactly a strict dress code that one has to follow but there are some do’s and don’ts of the park that need to be followed to avoid confusion while allowing the people to have a good time. It’s kind of important to read up on the guidelines and figure out what’s allowed and what’s not since it does seem likely that the park employees will be instructed to keep a watch on those that don’t want to follow the rules, as has been common throughout the years.

3. There’s a new Journey of Water walkthrough maze attraction inspired by Moana coming to Epcot.

While this attraction will cover other elements and themes within Disney’s many water-based attractions and movies Moana is going to represented as well since it will be another inspiration to attract the fans. Epcot has long been a standing attraction that has managed to draw in a lot of onlookers and interested individuals throughout the years but it would seem that Disney is remaining kind of mum on the subject at the moment so as to keep at least some surprises off the table until they’re ready to reveal them. But the maze is something that looks like it might be a lot of fun and it will be kid-friendly as well.

2. There’s another Simpsons movie and a spinoff in discussion.

This is something that has fans buzzing since there’s no doubt that a lot of folks want to see the continuation of the Simpsons and will gladly wait with great anticipation to see just who the rumored spinoff might feature since the wealth of characters is enough to excite just about anyone that’s been watching the show for the past few decades. What the movie will be about and what direction the spinoff will be taken in is up in the air at the moment but a lot of fans are still more than willing to wait for further announcements as the show continues to roll along.

1. The Ripken Youth Baseball Academy will be coming in 2020.

Jessica Figueroa continues to enlighten us as she talks about the Ripken Youth Baseball Academy that will be coming to the park this following year, and its something to be excited for since the legendary Cal Ripken himself will be hosting this event. A tournament for young players from ages 6 to 18 will be taking place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and you can expect the excitement to raised since it’s not every day that a young athlete gets the chance to come play on a stage such as this and in front of so many interested viewers.

So far it looks like things are heating up as Disney continues to expand and push for bigger and better attractions.
