Since its release in late 2017, Cuphead has become one of the most popular platformers of all time and living proof you don’t need a multimillion dollar budget to make an iconic game. Cuphead is bizarre, beautiful and, often, head thumpingly frustrating. It didn’t earn its reputation as one of the toughest platformers around by accident. In fact, the levels on offer here can be so challenging that scores of gamers have sworn off it altogether. So, why would you put yourself well through such an ordeal? Well, Cuphead is utterly entrancing to look at. It’s innovative, it’s surprising and it’s more than worth a tantrum or three. Just don’t swing for any mirrors, television sets or computer screens during your darker moments. The good news is, the makers of Cuphead aren’t all bad. There are a few ways to make runs of this platformer a little easier.
One such perk is the ability to purchase items such as attacks and bluffs. You can pick these up at a store run by a pig in an eyepatch. Payment, however, can only be made using special gold coins scattered about the world maps. Predictably, the coveted Cuphead hidden coins are not always easy to locate. And if you can’t find any, your only other option is to earn coins by completing the Run and Gun levels (yeah, good luck with that). Fortunately, we’ve got all the answers. Keep reading to find out where to pick up these Cuphead hidden coins.
Locating Coins in World One
Players get a little treat early on in the game. Upon finishing the tutorial, you’re given the first gold coin. The second is deceptively simple as well. Just engage the apple man on the bridge in conversation. After chatting for a while, he’ll give you some more coins. Don’t relax just yet though because the final coin within this map is difficult to earn. First, you must defeat every World One boss. Once you’ve done this, look for the razor blade character hidden just southwest of the Floral Fury quest. Walk directly into the trees to the left of this character and you should get a prompt to collect a coin.
Digging for Gold in World Two
The World Two map hides a total of three gold coins. To find the first, travel to the Die House. Just off to the south of this location, you should spot a green cart. The gold coin is situated behind the cart. To get your hands on the second coin, you need to uncover a different secret — a secret path behind the Wally Warbles quest. Find the Wally Warbles location. Go to the east to move behind the mountains. You should then emerge in a different location. Once there, chat with the girl who’s hanging out by the Funfair Fever quest. This character will give you another gold coin. The third and final coin in World Two is with the juggler. You can find him standing just to the south of the Fiery Frolic quest. Engage him in conversation. This will lead to the challenge of a fight. To win the fight, you’ve got to successfully parry four attacks. Once you’ve done this, he’ll hand over the last gold coin.
Uncovering Hidden Treasures in World Three
You may be realizing by now that these gold coins are pretty rare. In fact, there’s only one to find in the World Three map. So, after that, you’re on your own. You’ll have to keep bashing those buttons until you can crack the Run and Gun levels. To locate the final gold coin, travel to the store run by Pork Rind. It is hidden in a patch of grass just off to the north of the building.
Finishing Cuphead with a Gold Coin (and Maybe a Vow to Never Play Again)
There is one more gold coin for players to find in the Finale World of Cuphead. All you need to do to grab it is travel to the casino and search to the north. The coin is situated just behind the north wall of dice. And there you have it — the final gold coin freebie in the game. Spend it wisely because you’re going to need those upgrades. Or a new TV. Let’s hope it’s the former.
