What it’s about

The popular anime series Mob Psycho 100 follows the life of Shigeo Kageyama, better known as “Mob”, his family and his friends as he battles through emotional problems in middle school while trying to keep his psychic superpowers in check. Mob actually means a “background character” and that is exactly what Mob strives to be. The eighth grade boy known for his helmet like hair is known for his stoicism. In reality, as he ages his psychic powers get stronger and are more powerful when he shows emotion, so Mob tries not to show emotion despite the natural inclination to do so. He is coerced into joining his school’s Spirit Council and Telepathy Club but hopes to reign in his powers. Mob also joins the Body Improvement Club to impress the girl who he has a secret crush on.

Mob has a younger brother, Ritsu, who is 7 years old. Despite being well liked, smart and athletic, Ritsu aspires to be like his big brother. He longs for super psychic powers which he eventually develops. Mob’s mentor is Arataka Reigen who provides comic relief. Reigen is somewhat of a con artist and often calls upon Mob to help him with his clients. Dimple is an upper class man and is an evil spirit. He is shy but devious, and Mob must try to prevent him from causing mayhem. Another main character is Teruki Hanazawa better known as Teru or “hidden boss”. Teru attends a rival middle school and must learn from Mob how to use his powers correctly. Claw is an evil group led by Touichirou Suzuki and his son Shou who Mob must deal with.

Where we left off

Mob and his friends experienced many middle school adventures in the first season of Mob Psycho 100. Mostly, Mob was learning how to deal with his increasing psychic powers that increased when he felt emotions. The character of Mob is respected by fans of the series because of his focus on using his powers in a positive way to help others. As Mob experiences the typical emotions of a young teenager, this is not always an easy thing to do. He does want to be a good person and better himself which is difficult to do given the characters he’s up against in the series. He doesn’t want to rely on his powers.

Season 2

Season 2 of Mob Psycho 100 promises to be great for fans of the anime web series. When we enter into Season 2, we’ll see that Mob now has a better handle on dealing with his increasing psychic powers although he still struggles under the circumstances and growing threats. One big change in Season 2 is that Mob now has the support of his longtime crush. Although his romantic relationship does sometimes make it hard to keep his emotions in check, he has grown up a bit and may be ready to handle his emotions and increasing powers. He will still struggle to maintain control over his powers, however. Season 2 will also find Mob dealing with more supernatural threats. He will continue to have to contend with Dimple and the Claw group among others.
