Patsy Cline had what you might call an education that came more from life experience than anything else since she was enrolled in high school but never went as she had a job to help her mother with the home expenses after her father ran out on his family. When she became interested in a music career however she found that she could sing and could impress the right people and her career was off and running before she knew it. She might have become one of the legendary singers we remember from just a few decades past but unfortunately fate decided that wasn’t to be since Patsy’s plane crashed into a field about 90 miles from Nashville one night, killing everyone aboard. The saddest part of this is that the wreckage was looted not long after the passengers had been removed.
Here are some of her songs as they’ve been used in TV and movies.
5. Patsy Cline – You Belong to Me
Sharp Objects seems like the typical kind of show that you would find Patsy Cline’s music in, kind of ironic and even a bit edgy despite the fact that Cline’s pleasing voice and lyrics were anything but. In many ways her music and the music of the times has been used to create a kind of polar opposite effect that takes place in movies and shows of today to kind of force the two very different eras to coexist in a way that, to some, makes sense, but to others kind of acts as a jarring counterbalance that throws off the mundane feeling that it’s been done and seen before. In other words it’s an effect that makes people pay attention.
4. Fear The Walking Dead – I Fall to Pieces
You have to admit that it took FTWD a while to get going in the eyes of the fans. People were no doubt expecting a sudden jump into a world that was dominated by walkers such as had happened with The Walking Dead. This show however took things agonizingly slow and built up and entire world around the idea of the walking dead rather than just plunge directly into it. You could argue that this isn’t the case since Nick was among the first to see the dead rise, but he was so doped up he had no idea what he was seeing at first and had to come to grips with what was what at the same pace as everyone else.
3. Assassin’s Creed – Crazy
People were so upset by this movie that it’s kind of astonishing really since in truth it actually wasn’t that bad. It didn’t seem to hold to the story presented by the video game and didn’t offer up enough action for some people, but honestly it seems as though it held up its end beautifully since the action scenes were quite entertaining and the whole tale between the Templar order and the assassins is something that could very easily propel another movie into being if they wanted to risk it and keep moving forward. As for having Fassbender as the main character, well, they could have done a lot worse.
2. Fargo – Sweet Dreams
Considering that the movie was something of a hit with some people and not so much withe others it’s kind of surprising that a series would be made, but at the same time it’s not. After all people tend to think about things over and over until they come to the conclusion that they need and want to see more about something that might not have made a lot of sense in the movie and needs to be further explained. Then there are those moments when producers figure that they can grab onto an idea and just run with and expect people to love it as much as they do. In the end it’s all about the money that the show will bring in.
1. U-Turn – Your Cheatin’ Heart
To be honest seeing Joaquin Phoenix as a town tough guy is kind of hilarious since he’s one of the last people that a lot of folks would be afraid of, but then again he’s been convincing as a villain type following this movie, but his villain roles were a lot more serious and less dramatic than this guy. In fact this is the kind of guy you might want to flick in the nose like a growling dog just to see what might happen. After all later on he gets his butt kicked pretty easily and his girlfriend, who seems tired of his constant jealousy, comes to his support while yelling at the guy she was flirting with earlier. It’s a crazy movie.
Patsy Cline was a great performer in her day and it’s simply too bad that her time was cut short. She was heard to say however that when it was her time, it was her time.
