Clive Standen probably looks familiar to some folks that have watched the shows and movies he’s been in. He’s actually quite a capable actor and is someone that’s shown a great deal of skill both on and off screen. On screen he’s been more of a supporting character but he’s been great at that as well, enough so that some people either hate his characters or absolutely love them. To say that he’s someone that should be getting bigger and better roles is kind of an understatement, but it’s possible that he’s happy where he’s at and has been thinking to just be a part of the team as he states that so many of the casts he’s been a part of are in the first place. There’s no trouble in wanting to be recognized, but those that are there for the good of the group are usually some of the strongest and most well-liked actors in the business.
Here’s a few things you might not have known about him.
10. He was an international Thai boxer.
Clive is a genuinely tough person since Thai boxing is no joke for those that have seen it and understand just how tough the training is. He managed to accomplish this when he was in his teens, and while there’s no idea if he still practices it’s fair to say that he’s still pretty tough thanks to this.
9. He was in Vikings.
It should probably be noted that he IS still in Vikings since the final episode of season 5 showed Rollo returning to Kattegat, though as an envoy or an emissary no doubt to the French, since Rollo was the type to roll over on those that he thought weren’t giving him enough respect. He tended to turn on those that considered him a friend now and again.
8. He’s been compared to Errol Flynn.
His fighting style on set has been seen to be as great and as flashy as that of the legendary Errol Flynn, who was one of the best of his time. This is kind of hard to equate with his role on Vikings since Rollo, like the rest of the vikings, kind of just waded in and hacked and slashed in comparison to what he accomplished in his appearance in Robin Hood.
7. He can dissemble/reassemble an M16 rifle in under a minute.
There are folks in the military that can’t perform this action this fast and some of them even practice on a regular basis. He’s actually kind of cocky while he’s doing it, likely because he’s got every piece and motion down to a science.
6. He was on Dr. Who.
To be quite honest it seems that Dr. Who has played host to a lot of different actors that have rolled through from time to time, either as a guest star or a recurring character. It’s a big deal for those that have been there.
5. He prefers to stay in shape.
It’s not just wise for his various roles, but it’s also a great thing to stay in shape for one’s health as it promotes a much healthier body that works as it should. Staying in shape can become habitual if one does it right and will be an action that one takes automatically without even thinking about it.
4. He loves doing period dramas.
In fact he loves doing them so much that he has to check himself from time to time since he gets so into the character that he loses a bit of control now and again. To say that he really gets into what he’s doing is kind of an understatement since quite honestly Clive is having fun every moment he’s on set.
3. He wants to keep acting until he’s old and gray.
If he stays in good shape as he likes to do then it’s very possible he could be acting until he’s a gray-haired old man, much like some of the older generation have been seen to do lately. That’s a serious love for acting that would make a person want to keep going long past retirement age.
2. He’s done voice-overs for video games.
It’s great to see so many actors embracing the idea of doing something else with their talents than just acting on screen or on stage. This way they have a lot more value to different people that could make use of their services and possibly point them in different directions when they need them.
1. He was in Hammer of the Gods.
The ways of the vikings were certainly strange at times as in this film a young lord is sent forth to find his brother so that he may rule in their dying brother’s stead. Along the way he loses his companions, his friends, and eventually his younger half-brother to the madness of his quest, but by the end he gains his father’s approval and rule over his people, who he then leads against the Saxons.
Clive needs to be made into a leading man, without a doubt.
