General Hospital fans have been around a time or two. We’ve seen people die, give birth, go missing, come back, be someone else, not know who they are, make over their lives, change their personalities, love and leave, love again, and return from the dead. There is very little on this show we have not seen, and it’s been amazing. But there are some story lines that stay with us for years to come whether they were amazing or they were totally confusing. We aren’t sure what it is about these stories that stay with us more than others, but we think that they are certainly the kind of stories that make us feel something. Are there some you’d like to add to the list?
Luke and Laura’s Big Return
Back in the 80s and 90s, it was like everything they did was the biggest news ever. They could not do anything wrong, and they were not the kind of characters you could ignore. They were the show, and they were what we turned our televisions on every single day to watch. And there was that one time in the 90s when they showed up with their lives in order and a new baby, and it was the very adorable Lucky. He turned into the handsome Jonathan Jackson, and fans loved that even more. But it was really good when he was there with his family when they returned, and it was one of the biggest moments of all time.
Stone’s Death
He was only a teenager. He was the love of young Robin Scorpio’s life. Their storyline was one of the sweetest and most beautiful of all time, and it was one of the most amazing moments of television. The story struck a note back then. AIDS and HIV were only beginning to become a normal topic of discussion. There were more misconceptions about them, and the stigma was ugly. When Stone was diagnosed, it was a horrible moment. When Robin was then diagnosed as HIV positive, it was one of the biggest moments on television.
When Stone succumbed to his illness, however, it was the most horrible moment ever. He died in her arms, and it was one of the most beautiful moments. They were so happy together, and their love was so sweet. It was horrible to watch, and it was one of the most beautiful moments in the most horrible of ways. It was during a time when AIDS was basically a death sentence, and it was the kind of story that no one ever seemed to forget.
BJ and Maxie and the Heart
We all watched for months as little Maxie lie dying on a hospital bed. She needed a new heart, but no one could find one to help keep her alive. She simply wasn’t going to live much longer. Her body was young, but it was done with her fight. She was too little and too young and too weak to continue to fight, and her days were numbered. In fact, we were down to hours. She was not going to live much longer, but then we saw Felicia run to Bobbie to tell her that they have a heart for her own daughter.
The moment these two found out that Maxie’s heart was coming from BJ, Bobbie’s daughter who was just involved in an accident and declared Brain Dead, was the most difficult moment. To find out her daughter would only survive because her own cousin died and her heart would go to Maxie was a terrible moment. It was heartbreaking, and watching as these two mothers realized together what was happening and how this would work out was one of the most difficult situations. There simply is no way to feel happy in the moment like this. There is not a way to feel good that your own daughter is going to live because your niece died and your sister is falling apart. We think these two had the most awful time in this story, and we think it’s what makes it one of the most memorable. It was beautiful but heartbreaking at the same time, and that’s what makes these shows so good.
