The Vampire Diaries delivered us a new foe tonight and they are not ones to play nice at all. As a matter of fact, they might give Katherine a run for her money. In short, your boy is worried… Super worried.
The man who kidnapped Elena delivers her to a black SUV and is immediately killed by the vampire inside the truck, which is a new effective way of dispatching your hired help.
Where’s Elena?
Caroline explains to Damon what happened with Tyler and why she feels bad for him. She does calm Damon’s nerves by assuring him she didn’t reveal anything about vampires, but he warns Caroline to not be friends with Tyler at all. Um, yea right, Damon.
Speaking of Mystic Falls’ newest Big Bad Wolf, Tyler shows up at school and notices the mural in front of Sarah’s locker, Aimee is “missing”, and that he has super strength. Poor kid.
After discovering Elena didn’t come home the night before, Jeremy asks Stefan if she spent the night with him and if they are still trying to cover it up. Stefan says no and the two wonder where the hell could Elena be?
Well, we find out she’s being held against her will in a mansion that The Vampire Lestat would love. The vampire guy who killed Elena’s nabber tries to to drink from our heroine, but is banished by a female who marvels about the uncanny resemblance between Elena and Katherine. When Elena tries to speak the woman smacks Elena into slice with one blow. I take it that she’s a vampire as well…
Road Trip!
Stefan berates Damon for not telling him about Katherine’s warning concerning Elena. He wants to talk to Katherine ASAP, but Damon is against this idea due to their sire’s way of making deals and cutting throats afterwards. Stefan asks Bonnie for help and she comes up with a spell to track Elena. By using Jeremy’s blood, because he’s kin to Elena, Bonnie tracks her best friend’s whereabouts, which is about 300 miles from Mystic Falls. Jeremy begs to go, but Stefan won’t allow it. Damon, on the other hand, is ready to hit the road. Why? Because it’s Elena. Salvatore Road Trip Time!!!
Caroline runs into Tyler, who immediately wants to know how does she know about him. Caroline exits to avoid reneging on
Damon’s warning.
Vampire Lore 201: The Originals
Tyler corners Caroline and demands to know what she knows, because he knows she’s lying. After grabbing her, Caroline tosses Tyler on the ground, which amazes the both of them, but she warns her friend in so many words to back off. Uh oh!
Damon and Stefan wonder about what could Elena’s kidnappers could want with her. They settle on Elena being mistaken for Katherine and this is just a case of grabbing the wrong girl and , but boy are they wrong… Stefan thanks Damon for his participation, which Damon brushes off. Ah! Salvatore bonding…
Bonnie and Jeremy try their hand at helping by performing a spell to send Elena a message, with flirtatious bonding thrown in for good measure. Bonnie starts to bleed out of her nose, but manages to complete the spell. Then she passes out on Jeremy’s bed…
Elena asks the female vampire why is she being captured and who is this elusive Elijah she keeps hearing the two vampires talk about. The female vamp, who I’m assuming is Rose, breaks down that Elijah is one of the “Originals” and he’s been gunning for Rose and Trevor (the other vampire) for 500 years. Elena is their ticket out of his debt. Elena asks why does Elijah want her, which Rose explains is because Elena is the key to breaking the Petrova curse, aka the Sun/Moon curse. The moonstone happens to be what binds the curse, Elena’s sacrifice is what will destroy the curse. Well, I’ll be damned…
Vampire Lore 201: The Originals Pt. 2
Caroline comes home to find Tyler, who thinks Caroline is also a werewolf. While Caroline laughs at this ironic assumption, Tyler gets pissed and slams Caroline against the wall, which brings out the fangs and veins in Caroline. Tyler sees this and nearly craps his pants.
Jeremy tends to Bonnie, who reveals she’s been doing her spells long enough to know when they push back. She begs Jeremy not to tell anyone, due to her not wanting any villains (namely Damon) to know her weakness. After they agree on this, the two bond about being alone in this new world their in to the point that I want them to kiss already. It’s inevitable, is it not?
Stefan reveals to Damon his human blood diet and that Elena has been his source. Damon is surprised, but sarcastic. “Well, that’s romantic.” My thoughts exactly, Damon.
Trevor comes and fills in the gaps of their story, which basically is that Trevor helped Katherine (then known as Katerina), which ticked off the Originals, the first family from the Old Days. Rose had his back and the two have been on the run every since and are tired of it. They promise not to mess this up again, but Bonnie’s spell worked and Elena knows the Salvatores are on their way to kick some ass.
But they might want to get in line or arm themselves, because Elijah has arrived and just by seeing him, I cringe in fear.
Elijah
Elijah quickly lets it be known that the boss has entered the house and he means business. Rose fills him in on why he was summoned, which involves Katherine and her doppleganger Elena. Elijah calls BS on there being a descendant of Katherine, but rose insists she has the real thing. After Elijah smell and hears Elena’s heartbeat, he’s satisfied. Although, he kills Trevor for his insolence all those centuries ago. After dispatching Trevor, Elijah rips off Elena’s vervain necklace and compels her to reveal the location of the moonstone. As soon Elijah tries to take Elena, the Salvatores attack, but they are not prepared to deal with an Original one. Sike!
The Salvatores manage to take out Elijah after a scuffle, which makes me take back my earlier sentiment of Elijah being scary.
Katherine retains the throne on that title. Rose leaves while Elena and Stefan hug. She mouths “thank you” to Damon, who gave served the stake in Elijah’s heart.
The Originals Are Coming…
Elena returns home to the delight of Bonnie and Jeremy. She tells them she got their message and they all hug. Awww…
Caroline helps Tyler deal with her being a vampire and his werewolf problems, but doesn’t reveal just how she became a vampire. instead she begs him to keep everything a secret between just the two of them. Tyler claims he has no one else to talk to. Well, buddy, you and Caroline are about to be besties! Get used to it.
Stefan speaks with Damon about them protecting Elena, which means they can’t be fighting each other. They need to be one unit in this battle, which Damon agrees with. Stefan then apologizes for making Damon turn all those years ago and says he was selfish, because he didn’t want to be alone and needed his brother. Damon claims that he knows all this already, but Stefan says he wants to say it out loud. That’s pretty deep there…
Later, Rose shows up to the Salvatore mansion and finds Stefan, who she reveals that the Originals are coming after Elena now no matter what. Their reasoning is because they have to serve Klaus. Who the hell is Klaus?
While Stefan and Rose discuss Originals business, Damn makes an impromptu appearance to Elena’s bedroom where he returns her necklace. But before he does, he decides to go on a truth spell of his own. He tells Elena that he loves her and it’s his love for her which is why he can’t be selfish with her. He then says while he doesn’t deserve her, Stefan does. Then he compels her to forget everything he just said. Wow!
Oh, and remember the whole Elijah is now dead thing? It turns out that he isn’t as he removes the stake from his chest and gains back his complexion. Um… Resuming that fear of Elijah now.
What the hell is going on?!?!
Thoughts? Concerns? Vows to marry someone from the show? I’ve staked claim to Bonnie so kept it moving, fellas.

Klaus is the original vampire from the book. His power is beyond worlds & I think, if I'm rememebering correctly, he was the first vampire in existance.
So basically, I need to go ahead and finally read the books on my shelf. I smell a hiatus project…
You should! The first three books are strong, but then it kind of gets confusing by the fourth one. The show is definitely better, though.
The books definitely aren't as good as the show – if you read them prepared to get confused. The books also contain Mrs Flowers B&B (Where Katherine stayed before she was entombed)
PS. I love how bad ass Caroline is getting.
Another excellent episode in a fantastic season so far. The surprisingly violent death of one of the vampires was definitely more True Blood that Twilight, and was a nice part of the dark edge that Vampire Diaries has. I am loving the enhanced role of Caroline, and also it's nice to see Jeremy more. I do wish Alaric had a larger role, though they have kind of dropped Elana's parental storyline in favor of Katherine, which I have to admit is much more entertaining. Alaric just seems to provide bizarre weapons and babysit Elana's aunt. I loved the scene where Damon admitted to Elena that he loved her, then took away her memory of it. I did not like Damon at first, but he has become my favorite character and I love the layers they have added to him. Vampire Diaries remains a can't miss show for me, and this episode continues my obsession with it.
