It might be interesting to see how Daphne and Velma got together and see just how their origin story begins in a new Scooby Doo spinoff. Come on now, did you think that they were going to get away from the Scooby Doo label? They were created under it after all and are still a part of it. But at this point it seems that people would like to see just how the women in the story got their start, which is yet another part of how women are starting be represented more in films. Argue over that one if you will, but it seems very obvious that women are starting to take more prominent roles in films and in some cases it’s very interesting to see. It would be great to see how they got together since they’re such an unlikely pair, but perhaps near the end of the movie they would have be able to show just how the gang got together in order to become the group so man people came to know and love.
When you look at it Velma was one of the most important members of the group. Fred might have been the leader but he was more of a figurehead than anything, while Shaggy was kind of a goof that stumbled into things and didn’t do a whole lot of good. Scooby wasn’t too bad of a character but like Shaggy he tended to run from a lot rather than face it. Velma and Daphne were in fact the strongest characters on the show. They were the ones getting things done and looking for clues in order to discover the truth behind the mysteries, while the guys had their roles but were more or less in the way at times.
That’s not to say that they weren’t important, but Daphne and Velma were kind of the core of the group that kept them together since Fred and Shaggy never really seemed the type to hang around each other without someone there to keep them on the same page. There’ve been so many parodies of the original cartoon that it’s been made kind of a running joke, but Velma was quite honestly always the level-headed one that didn’t believe in ghosts while Daphne was the one that was all about that action when it came down to getting things done. The guys did what they could but were kind of ineffective on their own at times. If not for the women they might have been sunk. It’s easy to assume that without the guys it’s going to be at least a little tough for the girls to get any kind of attention with their own movie but it’s also nice to think that they could manage to earn the appreciation of a lot of fans of the cartoon that realized a while back just who the most valuable people in the group really were.
So far it looks like it might be worth taking a look at.
