5 Memorable Moments from the “March For Our Lives” Rally

The March for Our Lives rallies that have gone on across the nation have been stirring a pot that has in some cases needed to be stirred and upset a long time ago. There have been some memorable moments but there has also been some long-standing aggression that is now coming out in the wake of the school shootings that have been happening.  There are many great points that are being made by the youth of America and those that are standing alongside them in the quest for gun control. However in some cases it seems that stirring the pot is only making a mess of the issues at hand and creating a better opportunity for those that seek to use this as a platform for the type of speech that is only peripherally attached to the matter at hand.

There is a great deal of positive movement to be had, but just like with anything there are obvious drawbacks.

5. Ariana Grande

This seems like a very upbeat and positive thing to do for this type of rally as it brings people together and allows a celebrity to bind them with a touching song that rouses the heart and perhaps makes people think. It shows solidarity between Grande and those people that look up to her for just a moment as she is out singing for the cause and likely donating to charity. Yet for some reason for a woman that has badmouthed her fellow Americans in the past and known little to nothing about hardship it’s hard to really get behind her as a role model.

4. Emma Gonzalez’s moment of silence

It’s her right to be angry and to be hurt that it took so long for the shooter to be apprehended. It’s abominable to think that cops wouldn’t have been storming the high school and covering every possible exit in an attempt to corral the shooter and bring him in. Whatever went down at Parkland did not seem to be standard procedure and likely the police department has been hearing about it since.

3. The signs

There were a wide variety of signs all across the nation, many of them bashing the NRA and many more bashing Trump for their inability to pass laws that could enforce stricter gun laws and keep the youth of the nation safe in one of the many places that their lives should never be in danger. So far the current administration seems to be asleep at the wheel, especially since enforcement of stricter gun laws should have happened after no more than one school shooting. And yet what works so well for other countries doesn’t seem to work for America, that’s odd.

2. The need to continue

Usually it’s not something to be proud of to vomit on live TV but when you’ve got a message to convey then waiting until you feel better or your nerves settle doesn’t cut it. At that point stepping down would have indicated to many that she just didn’t have the stomach to say what she came to say. Yet for all that some people seem to be missing the point that the ‘right’ people and the ‘wrong’ people are not always so easy to spot even with heightened security measures and psychological profiling.

1. Even younger kids speaking out on the issue.

I’d hate to be the one to shatter this girl’s resolve since she is right. Kids are not stupid by any means and in the wake of something as horrible as the school shootings that have happened many kids are waking up wondering if the institution they’re walking into will be safe. But one thing they never seem to realize is that by the time they’re old enough to vote, they will be old enough to understand that at times they will be forced into one compromise after another. It’s cynical, but it’s the truth.

Kids should never have to walk into a school thinking that any day could be their last.
