Five Things You Didn’t Know about HGTV’s “Home Town”

By this time you know that HGTV is where you go when you want to learn the secrets of how to fix up your home to your liking, and Home Town is one of the newest additions that’s proving to be a hit for the network. Ben and Erin Napier have stumbled upon a show that allows them to keep their life as it is and still feature their talents as they seek to show the world just what they can do and help their home town in the process. So far it’s been something that people really like and there’s nothing to say that it will go away anytime soon since renovation shows have been and still are a very desired thing on TV.

So what don’t we know about this show yet?

5. Their show started due to their Instagram photos.

An HGTV executive came across their Instagram photos that they post each time they complete a renovation and believed that there was a show to be developed. It makes sense considering that HGTV has long since made a transition from being just about fixing up homes and has become more of a family-oriented channel as well, appealing to viewers in various demographics that like to watch their shows just for the fun of it.

4. Their ultimate goal is revitalizing their town.

They’re all about reviving their small town of Laurel and as a rule they only pick homes that are in and around their small town for people to pick from. They welcome newcomers to their town warmly and try to fix them up with the type of home that will suit their needs by finding old and run-down homes around the area. Once that’s done they use local artists and businesses to renovate the home to keep it local.

3. Erin uses an old school method to bring their ideas to life.

Instead of using computer graphics and designs Erin goes old school and uses her artistic talent to create what the client wants. She and Ben have a very concise and detail-oriented questionnaire that they give their clients to fill out so that they can get a good idea of who the people are and what they’ll want in their home. After this they go over every detail and Erin uses her skill to bring the home to life.

2. They don’t have strong backgrounds in renovation.

Their main focus is their mercantile store that sells handmade wooden furniture that Ben makes. Ben is a woodworker by trade and Erin is an artist and has an interest in graphic design. Renovating homes became a hobby and then a personal mission to both of them. Now that it’s become more than that they’re able to really give back to their town as they employ every last bit of their skills to help bring people to the homes they desire.

1. Chip and Joanna Gaines were their mentors.

Thankfully there’s no competition between the couples as the Gaines’ showed the Napier’s just how to do things and how to maintain their priorities while going through each job. Family has to come first after all, and the bond they have has to be their top priority or it just won’t work.

So far their show is going along great, hopefully they can continue their goal of restoring Laurel for some time to come.
