Alex Trebek Mocks Contestants Lack of Football Knowledge

So to be fair, Alex Trebek mocking people for their lack of football knowledge is good and it’s bad. It’s good because coming to Jeopardy! you should know a little something about just about anything you can think of that might come up on the board. The game is after all a veritable hodgepodge of facts that can come from anywhere in the world, on anything, and about anything. If you don’t like the NFL or don’t know anything about it that’s fine but coming close to the Super Bowl when you should be able to guess that so many shows are going to be sharing the same theme you should probably brush up on a few pertinent facts. For the brainiacs that habituate this show that should essentially be a no-brainer. Intelligence is great and all, it’s important and it does people a lot of good when it comes this game, but if you’re not wise enough to know what you’re getting into and what could possibly happen then you might want to consider moving on to a different show like Wheel of Fortune.

His mocking is also bad I did say, and this is why. Not everyone loves the NFL or will have anything to do with it. To some it’s a very barbaric sport that has no bearing on their lives and isn’t worth the time it would take to learn the kind of facts that might avail them in a game like this. You’ll notice that the football questions were left last, which indicates that none of the three contestants were even aware of what the questions might be. I hate to go by looks since it’s not a great indicator of what people are like, but looking at the three of them it seems fair to say that they’re not big football fans. They might enjoy other sports and being active but football doesn’t seem to ooze from their pores in any noticeable way and thus with the beginning of the cringe-worthy performance when it comes to the football questions it’s not too surprising that none of them can answer a single question.

If you’re an NFL fan and you watched this chances are you were leaning close to the screen and either shouting out the answer or getting close to doing so because a couple of them were so insanely easy that anyone with a pulse should have been able to at least guess. Fair catch and offsetting penalties should have been pretty simple. The Purple People Eaters and the question including Tom Landry and the Dallas Cowboys weren’t quite as simple though, since it would take a fan to know anything about this. So Trebek is obviously up on his football terminology and a few other things but his disbelief of the contestant’s inability to answer is enough to laugh at and even marvel at since it makes you remember that not everyone in the world is a fan of the NFL.
