I didn’t think anything could get worse than The Room, but this mockumentary series detailing the lives of the actors after the movie is just flat out creepy and, well, hard to watch. I’m not sure what really happened to them because honestly I’ve never checked. The movie was bad enough that I didn’t figure I needed to go forward with any of it again. And yet here we are with the mockumentary that is in many ways fitting since it both reaffirms the fan base in some way and still continues to mock the movie as it should. Let’s face it folks, The Room was just bad, I mean REALLY bad.
Honestly I hope that a lot of the actors got to move on to a better career path, either as actors or something else that they might actually excel at. Somehow Tommy Wiseau is still on the scene, and for the simple reason that it’s become trendy to like movies that are so horrible they’re considered good. Apparently there’s a line that has to be crossed for a movie to be considered so bad that it’s good, a quality that means it’s not dumped when it flops so horribly but passes on through a realm where the bad movies that bomb so spectacularly are somehow given new life by fans that embrace them because they’re horrible. That sounds so messed up that I can’t fully fathom it at the moment but it’s happened all the same.
Fans have for some reason given The Room its cult status largely because it was something that was so uniquely terrible that mocking it was about the only thing worth doing that kept it relevant. I’m still at loss for why it’s necessary to keep any memory of this film alive and yet I can’t find it in me to fully condemn it to the void. Even if I did I get the feeling that someone would pluck it out of thin air just in time to avoid losing it to the black hole that is film obscurity. As for the actors I have to wonder if this is the only part they could get after that horrible showing or if they’re coming on the mockumentary to remind people just how bad The Room really was. Do you think Tommy Wiseau would show up? I kind of doubt it since he might get offended somehow. Maybe I’m wrong though, since he didn’t seem to mind when James Franco portrayed him in The Disaster Artist.
In terms of acting the series looks better than the movie by far already, though it looks only slightly less ridiculous. The comedy is there obviously but it’s about a movie that people already laugh at despite the fact that it’s not a comedy. It might get better as time goes on but seriously it’s already miles above its source. At this point though I’m just wanting to forget about The Room and that it ever happened. I definitely don’t want to think about the belly button sex.
