Five Things You Didn’t Know about John Dickerson

John Dickerson is an American journalist and new co-host of CBS This Morning. Being raised in Virginia and also being a current native of Washington D.C. he’s right in the midst of the political action where he needs to be in order to earn his place as one of the best in the business. Throughout his life and career he’s been known as the type of person that wants and knows how to get the answers he needs in order to give people the best and most honest newscasts that he can. He’s bound to be a boon to the CBS crew and should be able to take them in a familiar direction without much deviation.

It’s important to be able to trust your newscasters after all.

5. He covered politics at TIME magazine for 12 years.

At one time he became TIME’s correspondent in the White House. That tells you that he’s deep into politics and has a mind for the kind of goings on that occur on a regular basis in the nation’s capital. Personally I get tired just listening to a half hour or less of political news but Dickerson tends to excel in this setting.

4. His mother was a newswoman.

This was a big influence in his life and no doubt set him on the course he wanted since as of now he’s one of the top guys in the news media. His mother was a pioneer when it came to being a news anchor, and might have even given her son a few hints and tips along the way to better prepare him for what he could expect.

3. He’s also an author.

He’s written several articles and at least a couple of books such as On Her Trail, which has to do with the dynamic between him and his mother while he was growing up, and Whistlestop: My Favorite Stories from Presidential Campaign History. Obviously this man has a very big love for politics, or at least a profound interest. That’s all well and good considering what his job is and what he’s expected to do.

2. He’s a master of asking questions.

He knows how to ask the questions that get people thinking and take them off their carefully written scripts. It’s not a bad thing since it makes the people he’s questioning think a little more about their answers rather than giving a canned and well-rehearsed response. I would think that more people would rather hear the honest, unvarnished truth from politicians rather than the well-oiled speeches that reassure only a small amount of the populace.

1. He’s hosted Face The Nation

Face The Nation is a political interview show that airs on Sunday mornings and allows the moderator to question the newsmakers on any and all political and socioeconomic issues that might be present and up for debate at that time. Dickerson has been on the show at least three times if not more as a moderator and has loved his time spent questioning and talking to people.

Everyone has their thing, Dickerson’s is obviously politics.
