10 Things You Didn’t Know about “Rock Dog”

Rock Dog is the story of a young sheepdog that wants to be a musician. His father obviously doesn’t approve since sheepdogs are supposed to be protectors, and becoming a musician is not what they were made for. However when an accident in the village occurs due to Bodi’s lack of focus the village elder suggest that Bodi take a trip to the city and see about fulfilling his dream. His father of course doesn’t approve yet again, but grants Bodi’s wish under one condition, that he quit music altogether if he fails. Despite a few mishaps in the city Bodi eventually realizes his potential and helps to save his village from the wolves that have been attempting to devour the inhabitants of the town, proving that rock and roll has helped him to gain the power that he needs to be a protector.

We all follow the same star, but on much different paths.

10. Several of the actors in the film have been voice actors before.

Mae Whitman, Eddie Izzard, J.K. Simmons, and Luke Wilson have all done voice roles before. Whitman is most famous for her portrayal of Tinkerbell.

9. There’s a possible nod to a Nirvana song in the movie.

The barber’s name is Floyd, this could be a nod to the song Floyd the Barber, which in turn was a nod to the Andy Griffith Show.

8. This is Sam Elliott’s third voice acting part.

He’s had roles in Barnyard and The Good Dinosaur as well. He’s got a great voice for these kind of movies.

7. This is the second film where Eddie Izzard co-stars with a Wilson brother.

Eddie starred in Cars 2 with Luke’s brother Owen Wilson as Miles Axelrod.

6. This was the director’s second animated film since Surf’s Up.

It’s been ten years since Surf’s Up came out, and it too was about a young person, a penguin in this case, that didn’t want to listen when people told him to give up.

5. This movie comes from the creator’s of Toy Story and Surf’s Up.

The themes have changed slightly but the feel that’s given from never giving up and never backing away is about the same.

4. This is Lewis Black’s second animated role.

He played the hotheaded role of Anger in Inside Out two years prior.

3. The original trailer was released in April of 2016.

It’s hard to believe this movie came out all that long ago.

2. This is Eddie Izzard’s 4th animated role.

He’s had roles in Cars 2, Igor, and Into the Wild. Obviously he doesn’t mind doing voice roles and does a pretty good job at them.

1. This is Luke Wilson’s second voice acting role.

He had a voice role in the Battle for Terra a while back.

This movie has a lot of good life lessons but it didn’t quite achieve the same level of fame that other movies like it did. It could have something to do with how it was marketed and that there have been a lot of animated movie releases in the past few years.

At this point I’m interested in watching it.
