There are so many different references within this short little title sequence to Silicon Valley that I will let you watch the clip for yourself since I don’t believe I would do it justice. This has something to do with the fact that being born in the late 1970’s has definitely given me a very different outlook on shows like Silicon Valley than it might to those that were born a decade or two later. It’s very impressive to look at but it’s also enough to make me shake my head and think of how simple things used to be as opposed to how they are now.
It sounds very old-fashioned and even outdated to say that I remember a day when computers were things that only people who could afford them owned and they were still molasses-fast next to what’s available now. Things back in the 80’s even were nowhere near what they are now and much of what was available back then seems horribly antiquated at this point. From devices to phones to PC’s it seems that everything that a person uses from year to year goes out of date within a matter of months. Back in the day if you used one particular tool for a number of years you were glad that it still worked the way you remembered. Now if an operating system or a device is lagging behind it’s because it’s so severely outdated that it can’t handle the new programs that need to be installed.
I’m not a technophobe obviously since here I am typing on a PC using an online service to write. But there are some things that make me wonder just how far humanity is going to go before we finally have to say enough. Obviously that limit hasn’t been reached yet. Silicon Valley is at least a funny look at the rise and continuing development of the technological age as it continues to roll forth without stopping. The number of companies that start up and then stick around is always in flux it seems and those that can’t hack it within a year or two are often gone without leaving much of a trace that they were ever here.
The show is something that might appeal to those that truly love the idea of a start up business and can talk the talk. Personally it might confuse the living heck out of me simply because even as a writer there are climes to which I won’t go on a regular basis. We each have our little areas of influence don’t we? I might venture there on a dare or if I absolutely had to but otherwise I think I’ll keep my distance and view from afar. The show at least appeals to enough people to make it worth the effort since it will be coming up on its fifth season in 2018.
The opening theme to Silicon Valley is a veritable hodgepodge of businesses both thriving and defunct with a variety of different images and props used to showcase just what has happened to each one of them.
