It’s hard to believe but Jim Croce didn’t really take music seriously until he attended Villanova University where he finally began to get into the swing of things. In fact as a wedding present his parents actually gave him and his wife a hefty sum of money, for those days, to get his music career going. They were hoping that his album would fail and that he would realize that a career in music wasn’t for him, but it kind of backfired on them. Croce’s album did great and reaffirmed that he was on the right path. Instead of using his bachelor’s degree for something his parents would have approved of he continued to write and play his music for those that would listen and eventually became the legend he is today. Sadly he passed away when he was just 30 years of age, otherwise there’s no telling what he could have gone on to do.
He had his faults and his challenges in life, but he was still worth something to musical world, and still is.
5. Stranger Things-You Don’t Mess Around With Jim
It makes sense to add in a name like Jim Croce to the soundtrack of this album since the older generation living in Hawkins at this time no doubt grew up to the sounds of Croce and many others during their youth. Despite the fact that he’d been gone for nearly a decade or more during this show’s timeline the addition is appreciated and continues to set the tone.
4. Logan-I Got A Name
Logan is all about nostalgia sometimes. For a guy that’s been alive since before any of the X-Men, including Charles Xavier, were even born it stands to reason that you’d use songs from different eras to describe his life. After all this guy saw the passage of a couple different centuries and could have told stories aplenty if he’d had the inclination.
3. X-Men: Days of Future Past-Time In A Bottle
Anyone this fast is a very dangerous person. If time essentially slows down for this guy when he’s moving just imagine the kind of damage he could do by merely touching you while he’s moving around in this fashion. Thankfully at this stage of his life Quicksilver is more of a prankster than a true threat. Imagine what it would be like to take a straight punch from this guy when he’s really moving.
2. Dancing With The Stars-Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
I can see dancing to this song, but it wouldn’t be my first pick for the show to be honest. It’s got enough of the whimsical feel to move your feet and have fun with it, but the pace otherwise kind of dictates that you keep moving at a rather quick pace throughout the entire song. To each their own, it seems as though the dancers are having a good time with it.
1. Jim Croce-Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
You can’t get better than watching the artists perform their own songs. Croce might have had a few ups and downs in his life but the music always seemed ready to accept him and pull him back in. If not for the plane crash that took his and several other lives I think he could have continued to rise in popularity through the years.
Here’s to you sir.
