Thor is one of the members of the Avengers who have largely impacted comic books as they are known today. Stan Lee wrote different Thor adventures and helped to bring to life Jack Kirby and the series soon got lots of fans after he made an appearance in 1960s thorough a role in Journey into Mystery. This character has ever since retained the charm and is a key selection of Maple’s output, which often proves him to be an invaluable ally to the Avengers. Due to the complex ancient myths and adventures highlighted in the comics as well as the ever-growing universe, some people might have got many things wrong about the series.
Here is a preview into some of the things everyone gets wrong about Thor.
Frigga is Thor’s biological mother
If your information about the relationship between Thor and Frigga is only from the movies, you are more likely to assume Frigga is the biological mother of Thor. Frigga is wife to Odin and when you read the comic, you will get a completely different picture that shows that Frigga only contributed in raising him. The biological mother of Thor, according to the comic, is Gaea, who was an Elder God. But Thor is not aware of this connection until where Gaea saves him in #300 then she exposes the truth.
His only time as human was Donald Blake
The comic also differs from the movies when it comes to the identity of Thor as a human. The story goes that he was sent to Earth where his memory got erased of any traces of the Asgardian life he led previously. He would learn humility while featuring as Dr. Donald and ten years later as Blake. As shown, this is not the only time Thor has appeared as a mortal. When Eric Masterson, a divorced architect, lifts Mjolnir before his demise, Odin merges Thor and Eric and retains their personalities. Thor is later given Oslon’s form.
His only weapon is Mjolnir
During a recent addition to Thor, it was noted that Thor had other signature weapons before Mjolnir. The weapon that takes this honor is an enchanted axe that was named Jarnbjorn. He used the weapon in several battles before he later settled for the Mjolnir, which he found more powerful and effective.
Thor cannot fly without Mjolnir
As everyone knows, Thor is able to fly as he whips the Mjolnir and casts it in long distances. This is the case in majority of his appearances, but in few instances, it has been demonstrated he can fly without the trusty hammer. In several Jack Kirby era stories, he swooped through skies without the weapon just like superman. He also takes part in a battle with Storm unaided and during the Infinity crossover, Thor takes to the skies unaided by his weapon.
The Asgardians make the strongest gods
The belief that the Asgardians are the mightiest gods is a matter of technicality. Although they are an advanced alien species, it is demonstrated that they are also at the mercy of other gods in the universe that are older and more powerful.
