Just in case you haven’t seen or even heard about the new show, Candy Crush, here’s a little basic background info on the show. The host of Candy Crush is Mario Lopez. You may remember him from the TV sitcom “Saved by the Bell”. Or, you could remember him from the many times he took off his shirt on the popular soap opera “The Bold & the Beautiful”. On the other hand, you probably watched him on “The X Factor” or “Dancing with the Stars”. Mario also guest starred on three episodes of the hit series that’s now on CMT, “Nashville”, between 2013 and 2015. And, these are just a few of the shows you probably saw Mario on.
Now, as the host of the CBS game show, Candy Crush, he keeps his shirt on for the most part and schmoozes with the guests and contestants like most game show hosts and frankly, he’s quite good at it. It’s a very engaging game show with live-action and it’s based, of course, on a popular video-game that bears the same name. It’s also a show where the competing teams include married couples, siblings, mothers and daughters, and even derby teammates. Each show follows that week’s contestants while they’re trying to match the colorful candies for the purpose of earning points. They need to get at least three or more plus overcoming obstacles, as well as moving up through more than 2,000 available levels just like in the mobile game. The Candy Crush mobile computer game was already a worldwide phenomenon and the TV game show brings it to life with two-person teams using both their physical agility and wits for competing on huge interactive game boards complete with next generation technology. Their ultimate goal is getting to the season finale and becoming the champions.
In the season finale of Candy Crush, the players are testing their ultimate crush skills for the final time. Four teams played the game during each previous episode. They worked their way through various Candy Crush challenges and the winning team on the season finale gets a whopping $100,000 prize. Stephen and Layla were the first of all the teams to break the max number of matches from 77. That was on what the show calls the “King-sized Challenge”. They also shut out another team, George and Jerry, during the “Ultimate Candy Clash”. Sammie and Rio, however, were the first team who didn’t ever win any qualifying rounds. But, they then made an epic comeback during the “King-sized Challenge”. They won more than 40 matches, knocking off Brittany and Paul, and then beating Evan and Ken for the crown in the “Ultimate Candy Clash”, winning the $100,000 prize.
Candy Crush premiered on CBS on July 9, 2017. It was created by Matt Kunitz, who also serves as one of the executive producers along with Russell Binder, Sebastian Knutsson, Nicki Sheard, and John Quinn. It’s brought to you by the talented folks at Pulse Creative in association with CBS Television Studios, Lionsgate Television, and King.com Ltd. There is some speculation, however, regarding the future of Candy Crush. Previously airing on Sunday nights, the season finale was later moved to Saturday night September 2nd. Could it be because the ratings have not been exactly stellar for the game show since its debut? To date, the first season has only averaged a .58 in the 18 to 49 demographic, as well as having a mere 2.474 million viewers. Insiders are wondering if the move to Saturday might be an indication of an impending cancellation by CBS somewhere in the very near future. Only time will tell, so stay tuned to find out.
