Five Things You Didn’t Know About Mickie James

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Mickie James

It is hard to believe that the WWE has evolved into one of the most lucrative brands in the entire world. What this company has been able to do over the past 35 years is nothing short of amazing. One component that has been added over the 20 years is a more balanced presentation of gender as far as the athletes are concerned. If you are over the age of 40, you can remember a time when the WWE and all professional wrestling channels were dominated by men, but that is definitely not the case now. There are some outstanding women athletes that can put on some unbelievable shows for the fans. One fan favorite that has made her way back into the WWE spotlight is Mickie James.

While James took a six-year hiatus from the WWE, fans have not forgotten her, and they are anticipating her return. Since there are bound to be some new fans, and Mickie has surely evolved, here are five facts that you most likely didn’t know about Mickie James.

She Has an Athletic Background

While this fact may seem like a foregone conclusion, the truth is that not all professional wrestlers have athletic or sport-based backgrounds. Some are naturals that discover themselves inside of the ring. Mickie does have an extensive athletic background. While some of the female wrestlers have backgrounds in softball, gymnastics or basketball, Mickie’s background is a little most to the left. She has actually competed heavily as an equestrian. She has competed in horse shows all over the world and she still loves to train horses.

She Used to Have an Alias of Alexis Laree

Anybody that follows wrestling knows that the alias that you choose means everything. Your alias is your brand, and it will set up how the fans view and relate to you. From Hulk Hogan to Stone-Cold Steve Austin, the name mattered. Well, before Mickie hit the WWE she used to go by the alias Alexis Laree. She actually came up with the name by fusing her stage name as a dancer with her middle name. Well, it is obvious that she decided to go with something a little robust. It was actually recommended by people who knew her and thought that she needed a tougher name to enter into the WWE.

She Has Two PWI Awards

I know, you are probably thinking the same thing I was thinking when this information was passed on to me — what in the world is a PWI award, and why does it matter. As with almost everything in life, awards, and their significance are relative. What is significant is that she is the only person in the history of the WWE to have one the award twice, and this distinction includes, the legendary Lita. The award celebrates the top female in the industry, and Mickie has proven that she deserves this accolade.

She is a Five-time World Champion

No matter what sport you examine, the athletes that compete in these sports are measured by one barometer and one barometer alone, have they won a championship, and if so, how many? There have been some great athletes who have come along, but when the discussions of the greatest of the great come up they are not in the discussion because they never won a championship. Well, Mickie James is a five-time champion — following up her Wrestle-Mania win with four other titles.

She Struggles in PPV Events

While there can be no argument that Mickie James has made a massive impact on professional wrestling, and particularly the WWE, she has struggled when it comes to how well she performs in Pay-Per-View events. So far, she is only 2-3 in her last five PPV events. This means that she will be coming into her return with less than a stellar record in PPV and she will have a lot to prove to herself and to the fans.
