Sam Elliott’s Getting Oscar Buzz Already for His Performance in The Hero

One of the most talked about films at Sundance this year was The Hero.   The star of the movie,  Sam Elliott, is said to have given perhaps the best performance in his near 50 year career.  P.S. I’ll still never forget seeing him in what might possibly be the worst movie of all-time, The Lifeguard.  But even back then Elliott was a total stud.  In recent years Elliott is known as much for his voice as he is his acting.  Dodge Ram anyone?  But let’s get back to The Hero.  I haven’t personally seen the film yet but the trailer looks fantastic.  Here’s the synopsis of the movie:

Lee Hayden (Sam Elliott) is an aging Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former-co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy (Nick Offerman), until a surprise cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus. He soon strikes up an exciting, contentious relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte (Laura Prepon), and he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy (Krysten Ritter), all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy.

The Hero is being released on June 9th and it’s a must see as far as I’m concerned.
