Heinz Wants to Declare Super Bowl Monday an Official Holiday Called Smunday

There are loads of holidays that make no sense.  There are even some where we don’t have to attend work or school that make even less sense.  People have been arguing that Columbus Day shouldn’t be a national holiday for years.  So when the thought of making the Monday after the Super Bowl an official holiday came up, at first I laughed but then I realized this isn’t actually a bad idea.  For all intents and purposes Super Bowl Sunday is a holiday.  I don’t care which way you cut it.  There’s equal amounts preparation as when you host people over for Thanksgiving or any other big dinner. You’re spending at least 5 hours together eating like you’ve never eaten before and drinking as well.

One of the worst days in the entire world to get back into the flow of life is the Monday after the Super Bowl.  I think 99% of the country can agree with this.  It’s not just a beverage hangover.  It’s so much more.  It’s the food, the yelling, the stress.  If anyone ever needed a day off, it’s a person who just watched the Super Bowl.    So Heinz decided to make a commercial about it.  Not only that, there’s a real petition going on at Change.org to make “Smunday” a national holiday.  There are already over 15,000 signatures signed.   100,000 are needed for it to be sent to Congress.  This is real people.  It’s actually real.  Let’s make Smunday a reality.

At a time when our nation is pretty divided there is no question Smunday can bring about one nation, at least on one day.
