Team Scorpion goes back to school in this week’s emotional episode of Scorpion. The episode begins with Sylvester giving Ralph a vintage copy of a Super Fun Guy comic because the young genius is working on a time capsule project for school, and everyone contributed something to the capsule. Toby gave his college graduation photo, and Happy gave a nut (the kind that holds machines in place, not the kind that squirrels eat) because in a hundred years, according to her, it will be the only thing in the time capsule that’s worth anything. Paige then tried to convince Walter to contribute something to Ralph’s project, but like always, the genius brushed it off as a waste of time, saying that “It’s inefficient to live in the past and compromise present productivity.” Wow. Just. Wow.
I also liked the heart-shaped frames that Happy made for Sylvester so that he could put pictures of Megan in them to remember her. The mechanical engineer may hate hearts and anything frilly or pink with a passion, but at least she is able to put those feelings aside when it comes to helping a friend. It’s also a bit ironic to see Happy wear a pink skirt and sweatshirt when the team goes undercover at Oceanside University, but I have to say, pink looks kind of good on her.
The scenes where Agent Gallo was trying to teach Sylvester some wrestling moves and Paige was helping Happy blend in at the Pi Upsilon sorority house (which Paige used to be a member of) were both amusing. Happy refused to learn the Pi Up spirit song and even ripped the sweater that Paige was trying to get her to wear in half. Sylvester backed away on all fours when Agent Gallo asked what his first wrestling move was. I was never part of a sorority back in my days in university, mostly because I don’t think my school had fraternity houses for students like they do in U.S colleges, so I envy those that have gone through that experience.
The part where Deputy Homeland Director Cooper roll-called the names of Team Scorpion’s aliases made me laugh out loud. Happy, Walter, and Agent Gallo all had made-up names, even though Toby didn’t. The shrink blew a raspberry after finding out (again) that he had to apply for a job in the university’s Psychology Department from his old nemesis, Quincy Berkstead. Watching them get into each other’s heads was interesting. I felt sorry for Toby when Quincy told him the reason why the latter’s former fiancee left him was because of his gambling issues, but when Toby poured the water on Quincy, making him think it was sulphuric acid, I chuckled at the irony that Quincy, being a shrink himself, didn’t see through Toby’s bluff.
Back to the mission, Happy handed out Digital Fingerprint Scanners to everyone to scan for anyone with a Toshoki device, which would lead them to Professor Terrance Cooley’s killer. I felt sorry for Sylvester when he got pranked by the boys at the wrestling team frat house. That’s just not a way to make a new student feel welcome on campus. I also applaud Paige for attempting to convince Walter to stop arguing with the drama students as they are nothing but EQ and that their PCs are all about sensitivity but to no avail. Walter told the students to give up drama and study something useful like science or math given that they have a .01% chance of making it as actors. Has anyone seen irony? Oh, there it is!
When the team found the quantum supercomputer in the basement of the computer science building, it was like breaking into a digital version of the infamous Fort Knox as any disturbance would set off a chain reaction, which would get everyone blown up into smithereens. I applaud Paige even more as she calmed Sylvester down by telling him to think of Megan so that he could steady the aluminum fan to reflect one of the quantum’s lasers back at itself. The biting retort she gave Walter when he snapped at her for bringing up Megan was excellent. You go, Paige! You go!
The scene where Ryder, the man who killed Professor Cooley, took Paige hostage in order to get the quarter billion dollars in bitcoins that he wanted was nail-biting, as I waited with bated breath, bracing myself for another possible character death. The kill shot was never heard as Agent Gallo snuck up behind Ryder and let the campus security guard Griggs to handcuff the criminal. Nicely done, Agent Gallo!
It was also nice to see Happy drop her shield and let Toby check off one thing on his college bucket list: dancing. Guess Mavis’ words to her at the Pi Up House got to the mechanical prodigy, and Toby decided to be normal for once. I also liked how Walter helped Ray get closure about his partner’s death by proving that Danny’s death was not his fault but that his oxygen tank was faulty. That’s a true friend. Now with the weight of Danny’s death off his shoulders, Ray decided to leave the garage to make up for lost time. Maybe he will finally visit Danny’s family and explain everything. It could happen! I’m also glad that Walter was able to contribute something to Ralph’s time capsule project as he put in a picture of him and Megan. It truly warmed my heart. In the words of Paige: More of that in the future please!
